In webcomic section maybe but the system+gate stuff was already becoming popular in webnovels. Sl just acted as a bridge between webnovels and webcomic for that genre cause of it's art. Ngl it would never become as popular as it was without it's amazing art. Solo Leveling is basically the demon slayer 2.0 but with worse fanbase.

the amount of times i've seen people throw around the word "objectively" when rating this show is unbelievable
i enjoyed the show a lot, it's great, but people want to feel smarter than they are, so they rate this show very highly, when a lot of the acclaimed themes that the show explores are also explored in a high school history class
well im guilty then, but surely aot isnt the the most overrated anime of all time for most
if you like a heavy focus on plot development and thriller aspects aot should be a must watch imo
my gripe comes with the fact that many aot fans are simply unwilling to have productive conversations about the shortcomings of the show
you mentioned death note above, i disagree with you, because in my experiences, people are more than willing to criticise the second half of the show and how it fell off a cliff
my experiences don't constitute reality, but i have never had a conversation with an aot fan, whether online or in real life, where they are willing to talk to me about what i believe are shortcomings of the show: the "foreshadowing" is meaningless, the ending is rushed and just a watered down version of code geass', the character development is poor, etc.
because they have this preconception that the show can do no wrong, and attack on the show would mean an attack on their intellectualism
it's probably not the most overrated anime of all time, and i do think it was really entertaining, but online discourse tips me against it instead of in favour of it
Most of the characters are empty and badly developed. if you care about more than 3 characters in this show its already a lot

The ending of the show is one of the worst of all time, its a story that threw its potential away trying to do too much
The first seasons are not bad, but the rest of it didnt deserve all the hype it got
can't speak for this guy, but for me i thought it was almost as boring as one piss. had to drop it halfway into season 2 because it was putting me to sleep, and all the characters were so bland and uninteresting.

It is more of a nostalgic anime than having a good storyline so not considering top 20 is fine
not when its 720 episodes and half of it it is filler. I still remember watching the last 50 episodes of that shii and I would see 2 punches thrown and then a 3 episode flashback.
Yeah I completely forgot about that. I watched naruto and one piece (the only super long anime shows that I've seen) completely differently than everyone else (my friends flame me for this but idc). I'm not heavy into anime, I've watched maybe 5-6 animes throughout 10 years. First of all, I never watch fillers for anime. 2nd, even canon episodes can be boring sometimes, which is why I constantly am using the arrow key to skip 5-10 seconds ahead. I only really care about the top fights, intriguing characters, and compelling storylines (to me).
I respect the people that can watch everything without skimming episodes / skipping fillers. I just can't do it bc I'd fall asleep ngl.
I pretty much do the same with the skipping. But, when I started watching Anime casually, Naruto was the first one that pissed me off with the fillers thing.
Like, so I was watching the initial Naruto series and not Shippuden, I get to 120 episodes, everything is great. I keep watching till 200 and then I get to know that this past week that i spent watching those 80 episodes were non-cannon.
Still, it's not a bad show but it ended up leaving a bad taste in my mouth by the end.
One Piece wasn't as bad for me, in fact, I liked it a lot more. I really wanna watch the last 2 arcs now but life :(

Not considering hentai , Tokyo ghoul undoubtedly ,every other animes have something or the other thing going for them to make them somewhat good , watching this series was a fucking nightmare it's like I had to figure out myself through the vague ass clues what was going on, they were just skipping on shit and pacing was so bad sometimes I had to google shit to understand it.The story went so haywire

Hunter hunter is also heavily overrated people make it seem like it's some sort of holy grail of the anime but it's not , it's pretty good but it's not the best

- “Most” have to be a mainstream anime, so it would be solo levelling. Pacing is too fast, barely any immersion and it’s clearly aimed for short attention span tiktok brainrot people.
- Similar to solo levelling is SAO, there’s much better game/isekai in log horizon, bofuri and SLF. SAO is a pioneer in overrated anime.
- My personal overrated anime would be Dororo, I dropped it after 6 episodes, don’t understand why people enjoy it.
SAO is one of the few animes I've watched, shit was goated for me (aside from season 2 or 3 i can't remember exactly, just that one of them was complete ass). I'm gonna put ur recommendations on my shows to watch list, I've wanted something similar to it lowkey.

It's about E-Sports. Since it's a donghua (Chinese Anime), it's not a mainstream anime a lot of people have heard about. It's a very underrated anime for sure.

- og db is funny, goofy, lighthearted
- db super is epic, the idea of reaching close to the top is cool
- dbz is boring, long and not as hype as super. it is not written that well, just “oh another stronger guy showed up. lets power up and merge n shit and then we can beat him!” which lasts for 50 episodes and then the cycle continues
alicization S1 was so slow paced, barely any progression at all.
alicization S2 War of Underworld onwards are much better.

the show looks beautiful but the amount of nothing that happens is so high that it is too droppable, like genuinely boring. I feel like a show being rated 9 stars with such a boring first half is fair to be called overrated.
The writing was so weird too like that Fern time skip was pointless cus they kept flashback to things that were skipped so like why even skip lol. Fights were really short too and mostly frieren aura farming, like she deadass brought Qual up the moment before he got disintegrated by his own spell, it felt so meaningless. As a german specifically, it's hard to ignore these constant mispronunciations of German words as well...
These character names make no sense at all, it feels like they were using whatever german word sounds cool to them. It would be completely fine to do so if they took actual German Names like in AoT, but if you take words , take some that makes sense, frieren literally means freeze/freezing, "Fern" means far. like well done it sounded good because you pronounced it wrong LMAO.
tldr it looks good but it isn't entertaining enough.

Naruto Shippuden. Naruto itself was good but then Shippuden was a power scaling mess especially when the mangekyou sharingan just started gaining random bs op abilities and just about everybody and their mom had a rinnegan that also started just gaining convenient abilities for the plot.
what i hate most about shonens is that every time they get a new power up, the other powers up become useless
