Saw a terrible top 20 list just now that ranked trent below the top 20 players of the year, so just need to clarify something with these stats:

trent was the 4th highest rated player in VCT this year
trent was a 2x regional MVP
trent was a 3x regional winner
trent 1.21 rating at Bangkok (tied for 2nd, 1st overall for playoffs)
trent 1.17 rating at Toronto (tied 4th, tied 1st overall for playoff rating)
trent 0.98 rating at Champs (undoubtedly a bad event, not as bad as some other players on this list’s lowest lows)

This is not a top 20 player apparently

I mean, G2 disappointed a little I feel like? They were considered favourites for every tournament this year. Managed one 2nd place and then not even top 3 in the other 2 (where they were even more overwhelming favourites, I feel like) - still a fantastic year don't get me wrong though, but a little disappointing no?

Top 20? Yeah you're prob right. Top 5 (you mentioned in the other thread)? No way, there's too many other options. He was good, but obviously the tejo nerfs hurt his performance a good bit. But I wouldn't even say the was the best player on G2, I think that goes to valyn.

Compare his performance in kickoff/bangkok/stage 1 to the rest of the year and you can clearly see that he was a less efficient initiator overall. Obviously he's very good at the role and good as sova/fade, but there was a strong case that he was the best tejo player in the world while he was still meta, whereas there are serveral other players who were just as good, likely better at scan initiator.

Yeah he was the best initiator at toronto based on stats, now read my post. Then, you should consider the whole season, not cherry pick his best events. Also, compare those stats with his stats on Tejo, and go watch some vods too, his impact on tejo was never surpasses by any other agent he played. I'm literally agreeing with you that he's top 20 but you have his meat so far down you're throat you somehow think I'm dissing him.

Bro saying he's not top 5 out of what, 240 players and some change, is not a diss. Also, your "debunk" of a top 5 (i don't even have a top 5, sry) is obviously going to be bias anyways. You clearly value stats over accolades (i.e someone could list all 5 nrg players as top 5 and not necessarily be wrong) plus there's so much that goes on in the server that we don't see on the rating page that we can really only speculate.

Well then his accolades better not be the stats you listed, there's no award for highest rated sova. And since you put so much value on this, how much of trent's rating is coming from his impact as an initiator and not other factors? like, can you tell me exactly what percentage of trents 1.21 rating at bangkok was purely derived from trents initiator skill and not from kills/adr/survival/simply winning matches?

The point isn’t that he has individual accolades, it’s that there’s only 3 players that do this year. So if you want to say that those players are better than him this year, you can do that. But as far as players lacking those accolades go, he’s at the top of that list

And there’s no way to measure impact from utility with stats, but kills matter just as much if not more. This is fundamentally understood by the community when we rank players like Leo as the pinnacle of initiator gameplay

Champions always overshadows the entire season, maybe not for us vct nerds, but for the masses its what defines that year. There are plenty of people who thinks that the best player of 2023 was Demon1, best player of 2024 was Zmjjkk, best player of 2025 was brawk

FNC 2023 was overshadowed, LOUD 2023... (o7 cow ahn zeen and t0yz), GENG 2024 was heavily overshadowed, T1 2025 sounds like it happened 300 years ago, G2 2025 heavily overshadowed, PRX already back to being crypto throwers. Thats why you HAVE to win Champions

Its very comparable, as Riot follows a similar design of product for both VCT and LOL esports, the prestige that they give to those events and their winners, the opening ceremonies for Grand Finals and how the entire season is built like a Road to Champions or Road to Worlds

In VCT you spend the entire season, Kickoff, Masters 1, Stage 1, Masters 2, Stage 2, collecting "Championship Points" to qualify for Champions

See that’s my issue, champs is not comparable to worlds because the lesser events are not comparable. MSI winners don’t get half the respect worlds winners do, people call Chovy a choker all the time. If someone won 2 masters in Valorant, people would put that player in GOAT convos

Well, i think thats only because in VCT most of the Champions winners fell off hard like Acend, EG and some LOUD and EDG players, from LOUD there is aspas that remained consistent and many consider him to be the GOAT, even tho he "only" won Champions

Ethan was not even a considered a top 15 player of all time, maybe not even a top 20 player of all time. Riot also doesnt consider Masters winners as World Champions too, they are called only "Masters winners". But the title you get for winning Champions is "2025 VCT Champion", you win the whole year. I understand that you and many people might not see Champions that much more valuable than Masters. But thats the way it is in every esport and sport, there are trophies and THE biggest trophy

And with the way that Riot manages their esports scenes, that probably wont change because its what works best as a product of entertainment
