TLDR: The documentary isnt that bad and happens to a lot of teams especially to teams who win then lose right after due to clashes of ego, confidence and everyone wanting to fix the issue because they feel they need to be perfect.

This is probably one of the hottest take out there because everyone and I mean everyone ive talked to collectively agrees that it is awful.

From my perspective the T1 documentary is just about the most realistic thing ive seen, as a person who has been in a competitive team environment for many years, the flaming, the overtalking, the lack of accountablity makes total sense. The only difference is T1 decided to show it.

Expectations
A team like t1 when getting formed was projected to be a korean superteam, many people thought they would go on to win events, this includes the players, every player in that squad knows that they are good, but the lack of results causes a ton of tension, when it gets to that degree, people will start blaming and getting mad at each other, it happens in a majority of teams, I promise you not a single team in the entirety of VCT in tier 1 history has ever not conversed like buzz or autumn. A lot of it comes from fustration at the lack of results this is especially true if your a player like buzz who has had multiple years of success and proven himself as a player, when things go wrong its not wild to think he would get upset, and voice his opinion to try and win.

Now I can already hear the replies saying "just because he is upset doesnt give him the right to flame or scapegoat slyvan" and you would be absolutely correct, Buzz is not in the right for flaming, but its bound to happen, thats just a consequence to losing, buzz feels like he knows how to fix an issue that happened and so he voiced it. "just because you were told not to do that smoke doesnt mean to NEVER do that smoke" this is a super valid complaint on its own, its just the delivery done that is poor.

Everyone except like izu pretty much then starts to give solutions to problems they have, whether it be comp changes, whether it be how they play, whether it be how they prep, whether it be how they comm etc etc and what happens is someone else will think thats not problem and thats where the tension gets super high. Its obvious that people like stax or buzz are in the wrong, im not a white knight here to protect them, but what im saying is, that people will just say shit when they get mad and feel things need to be fixed and that this isnt them. What they are doing is very realistic and happens to a lot a lot of teams, maybe not to the exact degree but especially good teams, will suffer the same problems. Nothing a coach or player said is completely unreasonable, they all make sense individually but seem poor due to delivery.

The documentary that t1 made is meant to capture the intense moment the team has had. For all we know right after buzz apologised after the fact but it will never be shown because the camera doesnt capture it all. You should never judge a player, coach or staff unless you know the full story which is something a singular documentary will never show, especially if it shows peoples worse moments when they get caught up in high intense moments of emotion. Everyone at one point or another will have breakdowns that make 0 sense to an outsider. I think people blaming autumn for his strats and stuff and I think thats dumb, of course they wont show that, all voice comm videos are limited, cut and edited, just because t1 one showed more, doesnt mean it shows it all.

There is much worse out there, there is much worse said in other esports, or sports in general. its not something healthy, you would be correct in saying having none of it would be better, but it happens and this isnt anything new, people just wont show it to you because no one wants other people to see them at their worst only this "propaganda" esc where it shows people at their best.

Honestly when I heard ppl talking shit, I thought it would be really bad but for a team that won then lost very quickly after everything shown makes complete sense, and I wouldnt be suprised if it was worse but never shown.

The only people im dissapointed in or I guess suprised by is the org t1 for allowing this to be shown because yes it happens a lot but it should never be public, like drama and stuff.

like I said in my post, what everyone is doing on that team is trying to win and give solutions to the problems they think there is. Which happens to basically every sport team, there is not 1 good sport team out there where players have not yelled at each other for mistakes done.

People are critical of it because the coach themselves is enabling the issues and not helping. The worst part of it was the flaming mid game. Imagine you are competing and then you teammate says mid game: “did you even shoot? Could u shoot?” And your coach starts saying “why you not shooting” is that going to help you win the game?

The coach actually did, when buzz was blaming sylvan for the rafters thing, autumn says "its just that guy whiffed his shot (izu)" and after the game he says sylvan made no gameplay mistakes he just struggled to aim. Which is very fair to say

could and should do autumn do better as a coach to foster a better and more healthy environment for the team, absolutely, should autumn immediately stop all flaming that happening on stage absolutely but I dont think its fair to say he didnt do anything.

IT IS BAD, because due to timing (intentional or not) that video kinda framed sylvan as the scapegoat and the reason they're flopped during stage 1

Also as someone who used to play for valorant college team for 1 year and tried tier 3/4 (non challanger only community tournament), i can say YES blaming happen all the time but... DURING PRACTICE-SCRIM and POST MATCH, not during fucking midgame. The real issue is, the blame doesnt even make any sense, like fuck you mean "can you shoot' "if you didnt frag last game pls frag" like the fuck, not to mention, the b split blaming part omg........

#54

Majority of the time the blame does make sense and is critical. I gave two examples in my post, but I fully agree blaming during a game should be unacceptable and autumn the coach shouldve called it out. but what im mainly focusing is the moments themselves which actually arent that bad from the player perspective.

But yes you and the others make a solid point that it happening during the game is ridiculas and should be handled better

Honestly, this is one of the most grounded takes I’ve seen on the T1 documentary. You're spot on when you say that these kinds of internal clashes are incredibly common—especially in top-tier competitive environments where expectations are sky-high and results don’t match.

What stood out to me too is how you emphasized realism—and I agree. While most fans want to see polished highlight reels and "team synergy" narratives, the truth is far messier, and that’s exactly what the documentary exposed. Flame, ego clashes, poor delivery of feedback—it all sucks, but it’s part of what happens behind the scenes when emotions are at their peak.

That said, I get why people are critical. For a public release, the rawness can come across as dysfunction or toxicity, especially for people who’ve never been in a team environment at that level. Buzz flaming Sylvan isn’t right, no doubt, but pretending it never happens on other teams is naive. You nailed it—the only difference is T1 chose to show it.

I do agree with you on being surprised that T1’s org approved this for public release. Not because it’s uniquely bad—but because most orgs work hard to hide anything that might damage public image. It’s a risky move and maybe not the smartest in terms of PR, even if it is a bold attempt at transparency.

In the end, I think this doc isn’t so much about drama—it’s about what pressure and expectation can do to even the best rosters. It doesn’t excuse the behavior, but it humanizes what we often just see as brands and names on a scoreboard.

The only problem is that as a player this may seem discouraging as im sure I wouldnt want this to be shown, with huge amount of hate coming from fans.

I as a fan love the transparency, but like imagine your buzz where your entire feed is filled with hate for you and orgs will now need to think twice of their pr before picking you up

i've also been part of professional teams in almost every capacity at some point and i can tell you that good teams don't let mistakes that happen in the heat of the moment negatively affect the rest of the game. this shit is meant to be dealt with outside of the server because it offers little to no productivity in the middle of a series

even the most dysfunctional team i've been on kept their frustrations to themselves until the game ended (and then they'd immediately leave the vc to cool off aka tilt queue LOL)

What you say doesnt really make sense, this is not an issue of trying. this is an issue of emotions, pressure and wanting to win.

they were underperforming during stage

this doesnt matter, buzz could be 40-1 every game and flaming still isnt okay. Its about having problems when you put expectations on yourself as a flawless team, if you win a trophy every loss after hurts because you are meant to be "the best team" Buzz isnt flaming anyone because he thinks he is a god and everyone is trash.

He is flaming people because he is frustrated and feels like he knows what changes are needed to fix the team up, it doesnt matter if he was 0-15, 16-16 or 50-12, at the end of the day he is trying to win, not feel like the best player in the lobby.

and also what I hate about autumn is his retarded experimenting, meteor, a sentinel main, is playing a fucking scan initiator (Tejo) at one point

This is a decision that meteor mustve agreed with, I dont like it but many times T1 outright say they dont like their comps, so they change it, if autumn kept sticking to the same things and didnt experiment that would be idiotic because all his players are asking him to go out and experiment. Every team that thinks comps are the issue try this btw, think of kangkang Kay/o. they are literally throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks

he's also immature, keep in mind THIS IS A MASTERS WINNING COACH.

Yes, as a masters winning coach he should do much better, but people are being too harsh on him when you barely know the guy. Like asking for his termination from valorant and not given a chance in tier 1 is a stupid thing to say. but overall I agree autumn should be better

#70

for the autumn experimenting the comps part, there should be constructive feedback given from the players to the coach first regarding the new "role". it seems like autumn is taking vct games like scrims way too much.

as for autumn's team environment part, he should take notes from termi on how to properly build the team culture and T1 should consider getting 2 performance coaches, 1 for the players and 1 for the coaches

if a player doesnt like the role, they should be the one saying it, just like how sayf in previous years would request not playing duelist. If meteor played it, its because he agreed to. you can see multiple times in the t1 documentary where the team agreed to change comps and meteor directly say that he didnt like the agent he was playing, and guess what they changed the comp.

The second part I agree with

I do think watching chobras (way too long) review of the documentary would help a lot of people
Translation + cultural context (and just doing a way better job trying to understand the others perspective than the other "reviews" ive watched)

(Still isnt positive, so if you come for drama/hatewatching then theres still a lot of that in there)
------

From my perspective the T1 ...

Yea and thats why I find the backlash such a shame
Intentional or not, we're dissuading orgs from giving us the exact transparency we always ask for

Expectations
A team like t1 when getting formed

I personally dont think that was really THAT much of an influence in the issues, rather a side effect. I dont think the players had different personalities BECAUSE they were on a super team, but rather that the org ended up with mismatching personalities because they were looking to build the best possible roster (and the differences werent an issue during the initial tests)
But yea things getting heated is so normal. Ive had some of my worst moments in gaming while in a (fucking paladins t3, we are literally students earning 0€ from this) team. Things get heated when theres (perceived in my case) real stakes. So nice segment as a whole^^

For all we know right after buzz apologised after the fact but it will never be shown because the camera doesnt capture it all. ...

Especially since Sylvan doesn't seem on necessarily bad terms with T1, even after the documentary blew up.

Honestly when I heard ppl talking shit, I thought it would be really bad

I do think if you interpret this in a western way then its way worse than what you percieved. For us it looks like a ton of gaslighting and having so many of these discussions at the expense of Sylvan's mental.
But cultural differences. So to pretend this was the intention of anyone on the team would be making large assumptions. Bad, but the documentary isnt anywhere near enough to attribute malicious intent to it.

The only people im dissapointed in or I guess suprised by is the org t1 for allowing this to be shown because yes it happens a lot but it should never be public, like drama and stuff.

Idk... I REALLY like this kind of content and feel like it (if it didnt blow up for drama reasons) is hugely beneficial to our understanding of the scene. Demystifying something we like speculating about so much doesnt seeem bad to me.
Its just that the backlash is irresponsible for an active roster. So I like the concept, the community just doesnt seem ready ig?

I agree, with pretty much all of this, but to quickly touch on your last point. I also love this type of content but I think it brings more unnecessary stress to all of the current t1 players, had this just been released like after champs or whatever so that the hate could die down and this lets the coach and players focus on the esport game rather than their PR game

Not reading allat but it's great content and transparency even if it makes it obvious Autumn and Buzz suck

More of showing actual problems in teams content pls, especially cuz if you resolved it mid season itll be an even better story

The only people im dissapointed in or I guess suprised by is the org t1 for allowing this to be shown because yes it happens a lot but it should never be public, like drama and stuff.

every team has some sort of internal discourse and conflict, but I don't think many teams have it at the level where they are flaming teammates during the middle of the game. It's not just the players as well but also autumn who is flaming sylvan before the game has ended.

You are completely right, they shouldnt be doing it during the game at all and its fault of autumn for not controlling the team environment. What I really wanted to point out was that actual moments themselves werent even close to bad and just the average for most teams especially the good ones

From my perspective, I can see where both sides are coming from—but honestly, that’s not how you speak to a rookie. I tried to frame it through the lens of cultural differences (especially with Korean culture emphasizing hierarchy and respect for seniors), but even then, the tone just didn’t sit right.

There’s a clear line between offering constructive feedback and talking down to someone. If the question had been something like, “What could you have done differently, Sylvan?”—no issue. But “Why didn’t you shoot back?” or “Why don’t you win the round?” feels more like blame than actual coaching. You can even hear it in Sylvan’s tone—he’s taken aback. In a team setting, especially at this level, that kind of attitude can really mess with morale and chemistry.

And honestly, Autumn hasn’t exactly shown strong leadership so far. He comes across more like someone checking boxes than someone who sets the tone and builds a healthy team culture. That lack of presence or discipline from the top is telling.

To me, it points to deeper issues within T1 Valorant, from Masters to this, the team has really shifted. From the outside, you can already sense tension—and moments like this just confirm what a lot of fans have been feeling.

tldr na people are soft, this is why asians end up on top with most esports. One thing I do not like is the coach showing favoritism but that could be a cultural thing especially siding with buzz(veteran) over a rookie. But still it's not that deep.

Yes, it’s bad, ofc, but it isn’t as bad as people make it to be

A lot of it as to do with how quiet IZu and Sylvan are, somewhere in the documentary Buzz express how he wants them to “speak up”. I don’t think this is a shade towards them, Buzz wants to win, so he wants to hear perspectives, one example is 2023 Fnatic, where during the lock-in grand finals on icebox during a timeout Derke is yelling at Leo to speak up more, it’s not a bad thing.

The jokes/banter sucks, you telling your player after the match that they might as well have had no hands during a map is disgraceful, imagine joking with a player like Xenom that he couldn’t shoot his gun for a map, or Juicy, they are quiet players, they basically are forced to take it, which is bad, especially since there were only 1-2 compliments back, which was highlighted by Sliggy

The Buzz and Stax “passive aggressive” narrative is also a little overblown. The “did you shoot” argument doesn’t have the context it needs, Buzz brings it up because they plan on doing the same setup as the round where Sylvan holds the front of the smoke, the “did you shoot” was a way of prying Sylvans perspective. The pre round map selection with Stax saying “don’t get sylvan to do the map veto, we would lose!” Also needs more context, because it’s more of a “Oooo Sylvan will lose us the map veto because he’s too quiet!” Which I already mentioned.

Yall need to keep in mind, this was a SUPER TEAM for a LEGENDARY ORG, they want to win more than anyone, obviously frustrations are bound to happen because everyone wants to win in their own right, but lots of things are exaggerated by the community. Obviously the situation sucks, but it happens when you start losing after winning so much

Wasn’t the “could you shoot” a mistranslation anyways like Chobra pointed out on his stream.

In context of the round, buzz basically asked if he was able to shoot or was he util dumped. That’s why stax said to sylvan to say something so they know if they need to adjust the setup or not.
