If you guys were a young up and coming valorant pro and got offered 20k+ to underperform in one match would you take that offer because personally I am finding it hard to justify why I wouldn’t for such life changing amount of money

Morals over money honestly. But if you come from a poor background, I wont HATE you for matchfixing
i wouldnt. some org owner has to take a chance on these players and trust them to try their best
if ur in a shitty life situation i wouldnt blame you
esports requires a lot of sacrifices obviously, if ur salaried in t2 ur making fuckall for gaming lol
yeah i think it depends on the situation
me personally, if i was a mid t2 player i would just make as much money as i can and then try to find another job
getting to t1 is too hard (especially in americas, where +vanity -vanity +vanity means no new talent actually gets signed)
if i believed in my talent i wouldn’t
if i was ass and know i’ll never make it i would probably take the bag yeah
I don't think many people are outright blaming the players for playing to their outs in such a mismanaged t2 system. As you said, many people would take those deals, but those players still shouldn't be able to play in a competitive setting again.
The matchfixing screws over the betting company primarily. I dont think its this crazy immoral thing to do for a person.
That's a very reductive take, sure it hurts the betting companies but also screws over the already vulnerable, gambling addicts who throw money at an outcome they don't know is already fixed.
Do you think the amount of money lost in bets is any higher because of the matchfixing? Im not sure thats the case. So the harm caused remains the same
Betting companies are literally built to reduce losses. By definition the payouts come directly from the losers so punting tens of thousands on a rigged outcome will take tens of thousands from the everyday person.
hard to say but tbh 95% of t2 pros are doomed to fail and not go t1, i'd completely understand cashing out
We cant blame both side, bcs both side need money, blame riot for letting this happened
i mean we all know a true open circuit system would help alleviate this but they wont do it lol
i think the video is a bit underwhelming but ultimately to me it looks like sean gares looking for a scapegoat for SR not making playoffs
Brother.... He is a competitor with serious evidence that some people are actively cheating his competition. Thats an extremely valid reason to be paranoid. This likely is only the tip of the iceberg
also i find the presumption that the people throwing are probably doing so because they need to hilarious
there’s such a weird “self made rescuing from poverty” people are imagining to make it seem more honorable than it is
they just want money bro end of day
i dont think this is 100% fair to say though, the money being offered to them (over the course of multiple games) is life changing money. A lot of these players also aren't adults, they're 16/17 year old teenagers. I agree that there are probably more than a couple people doing it for the money, but if you or your family is in a rough spot and someone offers you hundreds of thousands, why not take it? The changes of tier 1 are so slim, especially if you aren't a good player. E-sports as a whole isn't a sustainable livelihood, tier 1 or not
“rough spot” is the assumption i’m making fun of
what do you think the average distribution of high level valorant players is family income wise. consider having a high quality gaming pc, time to play for hours a day, etc
this isn’t like kids in the projects trying to make it as a basketball player lmfao
I understand that, but I know plenty of people with souped-out gaming PCs that do play games for the whole day that are also not doing so well. I think people don't realize how much money they are being offered is. In some parts of the world, such as near where I live, $200,000 (10 thrown matches or so) is enough to buy a new HOUSE. Why would you not choose to do that? gaming PCs aren't that expensive compared to the money that is literally being thrown at them
half of tier 2 mfs are working at mcd, of course they want money. are you regarded?
Why not? Because it's illegal. Same logic as "why work a 9-to-5 when I can make thousands a day selling drugs on the black market?"
exactly what u said. competitive integrity in a multi-million dollar game DOESNT matter when Riot doesnt support players who want to make it to T1. thankfully the smart players realized its literally impossible and they started matchfixing. It will force Riot to do something or the betting sites will continue to profit bc aint shit they can do about them thankfully.
how far you wanna go? "hey i wanna make t1, so im gonna tank my performances and be likely to not ascend"
