dsg toast twitter response to gc drama

His response starts off okay,
saying that there wasn't enough time to put together a competitive team so he made a team for the 'memes' in his words
which sure I guess

He said though 'You don't deserve an org more than the next person.'
You do deserve an org more then the next person;
an org allows a person to commit all their time to grinding, a top unsigned GC player could use an org to become a better player but instead rich clouted streamers who don't even care about competing take up the vital capital.
In a game where being the best is the most important, the best players should get the best opportunities, not the ones with the highest socialblade score.

TL;DR
I can't blame a org for wanting to make more money through clout then skill but to shamelessly act like your doing it to support the woman's scene is crazy.
Building the GC scene will be done through results not scrim streams

Edit because you guys lack reading comprehension:
I'm not saying he can't make a meme team, or that he can't spend his money as he pleases, I'm saying that he shouldn't pretend to be doing it for noble causes, that's the probelm

I haven't looked into the wording or such butI'll be honest in terms of bolstering a scene nothing really keeps a scene going more than veiwership. I mean look at the drop off in eu vlrs like France and Spain when big name clouted teams like koi and karmine corp (even in games without the big name teams) The clout brings the viewership to not only the teams with clout but the series as a whole which massively boosts the other investment into the scene. All in all, it's probably a net positive for GC scene

What would help woman more,
A bunch of female streamers making a team and losing
or
a female team winning against good teams

The former brings viewership that is just tied to the streamer and will stop watching once the streamers get bored
The latter grow fans that stay long term

'A month ago I asked who the best unsigned GC player was - I received a lot of great recommendation but ultimately felt like there was not enough time to put together a team responsibly in just under a month.'

'I also wasn't ready quite yet to commit $300,000 off a whim'

Does this not imply that he would be willing to given more time and understanding of the space to invest in a real team?

? Even if the streamer team doesn’t get out of open qualifiers, there will be another GC team that takes on the mantle from them and starts winning against good teams. DSG doesn’t have to be that team, it’s more than enough for them to bring eyes to the scene.

Maybe he contradicted himself a little by saying first everyone is taking this seriously, then saying this is just for content and memes, but he shouldn't have to explain anyway.
It'ss his org and his money, he can put whoever he wants in the roster.

My problem isn't him using his money how he wants, or even using it for a meme team. It's pretending that it's for anything other then having a clout team

#12

He's not doing this for money, he's spending 300k $ on this team, you think he will earn more than that from a GC team?

#16
Faraday
-13
Frags
+

Obviously he's not doing it for money, nobody makes a esports org to make money
I'm saying for him to act like he's doing to for any kind of virtue and not just for himself is wack

'I assure all the girls on the team are taking this event very seriously'
'You don't deserve an org more than the next person.'
'I still wanted to do something cool for GC1 because I really believe that it is an under-serve market that other orgs and even Riot themselves haven't fully realized yet.'
'It shouldn't ONLY be about the BIG FRANCHISE ESPORTS teams. There should also be attention to the Tier 2 space, the GC space, as well as less popular regions around the world.'

He's say these but clearly isn't the main reason, just be honest he wants a clout team because it's more fun for himself rather then pretending he's doing it primarily out of care for the woman scene

making a clout team ---> more viewership for GC scene---> he cares about the woman scene

#22

making a clout team ---> temporarily boost viewership for GC scene---> They leave because the streamers get bored --> he pretends to cares about the woman scene while spending nothing on the players and take all the clout and advertising

Making a real team--> Increase the skill of the female players --> good results mean real organically grown viewers that don't leave --> actually taking a financial loss for the betterment of the scene because he really cares for the scene

Let's use some logic here, even if Toast went with what he initially planned and made a team, with less than a month to negotiate, sign contracts and practice, what are the chances of this team even making it out of open quals? Your assumption that there would be good results is a bit pointless because it was very likely for a team with 2 weeks to prac together to have bad results. Now the scenario may be the exact same for the content team but it is still more eyes on GC whether it is temporary or not, viewership is good.

when did he ever allude to leaving GC after this event? you're just putting words in his mouth to spin a narrative and virtue that you care more about the space then someone who is contributing to it and giving someone like tupper an opportunity to showcase themselves at a high level.

You've actually showcased in this entire thread that you care more about shitting on Toast/DSG then the woman/NB's involved in this scene

i liked the idea of the team, i think it is good to bring more attention to the gc scene, watching their favourite streamers play but i cant disagree with anything you said. they don't have a passion to be the best, that is the biggest problem imo.

I understand your point if DSG is a partnered team and they received money from Riot to sign players, but DSG is not. It is also not Toast's responsibility to support GC by signing "pros pros". I don't understand the disappointment over this small org when other oldest and biggest orgs don't even have GC team.

i read thro it and yes I agree his response went bad on the them taking it seriously and the gatekeeping part . what that player was complaining about isnt wrong either on the point about this being a one time thing and them not being commited in the long run .
It's clear that he had less time to research and less money so he went with streamers who will get him or his org most exposure . Then exposure itself is a v good thing for womens who looking to compete in future and this team which he signed will definitely help with that bcuz atleast it shows that anyone above a certain rank can participate even as a fun way , but i rly doubt thats what Toast thought when making this team but who cares at least this is helping the gc scene with more viewership. A lot more people will watch now which will be positive anyw

True, I have no problem with toast doing whatever he wants, the problem is acting like he's doing it because he just cares so much for the woman's scene

Even if Toast's team is full of streamers, his team still brings more attention to GC then ever before, literal tens of thousands of people who, like most, had never even HEARD of GC before are now interested.

Why do his intentions matter so much to you...If 100T, Loud, Sentinels, or any other major franchise org were to create GC teams, there is no doubt they would also claim that they are trying to "help the scene grow". Whether or not they mean it is irrelevant, because they would still be providing much needed exposure to the scene. All you're doing is gatekeeping the women's scene to people who you think "really care" about it, which only inhibits the growth of GC.

There is no perfect world where every investor cares about their product, and willing for that to happen is delusional. You're opinion isn't invalid, but it sure is naive as hell. DSG GC is still a massive, massive net positive for the women's valorant scene, streamer/clouted team or not.

Your argument essentially boils down to "I don't like DSG GC because Toast is acting like he cares abt the women's scene when he doesn't." That is incredibly shallow, and is a reach to assume considering it is based on a few tweets on social media. His original intention was clearly to sign a team of real pros, and why that didn't work out is up in the air. Although it likely had to do with lack of time to recruit and for the team to practice.

Arent all these famous streamer at the same ranked level as most real pro's anyway? There is like 10 top tier GC players maybe, and all already signed. So instead of signing no name immortals he signs clout immortals. All his matches will be the most viewed, by far

I do kinda understand why people are complaining.

However GC getting exposure will help the scene.
GC was never meant to be a main circuit it's supposed to be a gateway for marginalized genders to compete in esports.
I feel like having streamers stream scrims etc will only help to inspire and help the next generation of GC gamers to become pros.

#32

this move will generate clout to gc and hopefully other people will take notice and maybe more orgs or sponsors will be interested in supporting the scene, so more gc players can be signed. that might be more contribution to the scene than someone crying on this decision.

most if not all cracked players are already on a team. they could pick literally anyone and you would say there was someone more deserving. so thats just a load of bullshit. there has been pug teams playing in these qualifiers and that wasnt a problem to anyone. everyone is making a fuss about it because theyre famous , if they were no namers nobody even bats an eye. it just sounds like jealousy to me. if i am watching mediocre valorant anyways i would rather watch those 5 that i know play.

#42

ehh he can do whatever he wants tbh. It just kinda sorta looks weird for him to say "oh who wants to join my team i wanna sign players n shit" then proceed with streamers. Completely fine if he wants to make a meme team, but he shouldn't have led with the initial offer then, or idk maybe announce that he will be proceeding with a content team instead of a real one (again NOT that he OWES anyone this announcement, but it just makes this new development unsurprising).

Her only kinda valid point is that it makes the scene look unserious in a space where it already isn't taken seriously . But if we're being a 100% realistic here......no one takes the GC scene seriously regardless. It's a charity scene, and nobody spectating the scene expects top tier valorant anyways (the tail end of #39 is an opinion held by majority of the general valocomp community). This take would've have been SO much more valued in a hypothetical world where top GC teams rivaled actual good teams, but the gc scene was still looked down on/discriminated regardless.

You are entitled, Evidence shown below
"He said though 'You don't deserve an org more than the next person.'
You do deserve an org more then the next person;

Maybe you should be the one reading
They are not getting paid, they are doing it for the experience of it

So your whole argument of
"You do deserve an org more then the next person;
an org allows a person to commit all their time to grinding, a top unsigned GC player could use an org to become a better player but instead rich clouted streamers who don't even care about competing take up the vital capital." goes away, they aren´t taking a place from a more deserving team, cause they are going through the Open qualifier and they are dedicating time to practice and learn.
