Most of them were unwell, they played two top 4 teams in the world back to back. Happens. If they get a better group draw they could probably top 4 again.

explanation: shanghai was a mickey mouse (yes, gen.g was the best team at the event, but the competition was ass)

TH with full roster and good prep > GEN.G
SEN in form > GEN.G

I think their group had Sen and EDG Heretics. And they beat Sen on their first match but lost on the rematch to qualify for playoffs. I think group distribution of that champs was just kind of fucked unfortunately for them.

Group of death for a reason, that group was abnormally strong with all the international finalists and winners that year and the second best Chinese team FPX that was able to go toe to toe with prime EDG (look at their matches domestically, they made it pretty close).

They were in the group of death. They could've won vs TH but they choked mad hard. TH anti stratted them a lot, then SEN got the rematch buff

Easily got the hardest group of the tournament with TH and Sen, like any of them could have eliminated each other realistically, its just GenG ended up getting lower bracket Sen which tends to play a lot better than upper bracket Sen.

literal group of death of course the chance existed.
