as a rap ball knower (kendrick lamar top 500 listener + 100k mins of rap this year), theres a lot of reasons people like rap.
tldr sound of both the delivery/flows and beats is the main reason people like rap, rap and its lyrics exist because of black culture in america, conscious rap exists and is popular because it highlights the bad part of rap/black culture
the main one is the sound. people love rap beats, theyre really fast-paced and catchy, but also the sound of the artist is what makes it fun and interesting to listen to. people like yeat, playboi carti, lil uzi, travis scott, future, and a lot of the more mainstream rappers are there because people want to listen to how the song sounds more than the lyrics themselves. the main thing about the lyrics people talk about (the sex, money, drugs and violence) is that they represent the culture and the lives of many black americans, making it easy for them to agree with than pop/rock topics.
also for the only rappers youve listened to, eminem and nf are not the best examples for access to the genre, though they do tick one of the boxes- they sound good.
theres also conscious rap, which has the lyrics as the main focus and reason people like it. people like kendrick lamar, malice, j cole, and others, talk mostly about whats going on in the world, and talking about the same things as other rappers but in a negative light, whether it be problems with the rap/music industry, worldly problems, why the culture is bad for black communities (prison, violence, death, addictions, etc), personal problems or just other introspective things are why people like conscious rap.
many non-conscious rappers do dabble in a bit of introspectiveness too, with travis scott on my eyes and lose, future on we dont trust you/we still dont trust you and nights like this, metro boomin producing creepin (the weeknd, 21 savage), no more (travis scott, kodak black and 21 savage), and things like that as the main examples for me.
