I have a college team filled with iron and bronze players, (and 1 silver), and I need ideas to get them better. They are the JV team for our school and they don't even come close to winning any match. Sadly, the teams that they are facing have peak ranks like plat or diamond, and have a avg rank around gold so they are usually at a disadvantage almost every game. My goal for them is just to win one map all season. What's the best way to get them better?

(I will upvote you guys if I like since it takes me 5 mins to reply)

haven't played ranked in a while but honestly having a decent device and playing a lot of games automatically helps improve a lot for beginners; used to play on a 60 Hz quad core i3 with integrated graphics and was stuck in iron felt like i lagged whenever i took fights but then once i got gifted my newer laptop i5 10th gen, 144 hz, with some low end actual graphics card and grinded the game for some time i immediately placed silver but this was last year and i dont play ranked anymore

yes and no actually, a smooth 60hz can bring you to atleast plat/low dia but for higher rank you defn need 144+.

#12

thing is i wasn't even getting 60 fps all the games were around 30 fps, i don't know whether the refresh rate had an impact but the other specs surely had

#17

yea that was sad, sub 60 is unplayable for modern competitive game. I mean luckily the lowest i could get was smooth 60 and easily reach low dia before i upgraded.

yeah i got mid/high ascendant with smooth 60hz before upgrading and stayed the same after getting 165 but i stopped playing as much so idrk

true, i literally grind for like a whole year with 60hz and stopped playing 3 months after using my 144hz lmao

#20

yeah, but added to that i wasn't even grinding so my mechs were pretty bad mixed with bad game sense but the game felt as if i was watching a powerpoint sometimes; but getting even slightly better specs and with a lil bit of grind i got way higher than before

If they are iron and bronze they just need to play the game. No aim training, no macro analysis. Just have them all queue comp.

Maybe explain the fundamentals of gunplay - deadzoning vs spraying and like how to peek angles

This is exactly what I want them to do but the president of our esports club goes "I just wouldn't have them play if they are gonna lose every map" I told him to fuck off.

what #5 said but I would also tell them to do practice aimlabs/kovaac playlist it helps a lot in lower ranks

#14

no its not, aim training doesnt matter if they dont know the point of aim training. They will ended up mindlessly shooting circle.
Build the fundamental first, atleast good enough to reach gold/low plat then we can bring aim training to the convos.

Wrong, aim training is useful, My friend aim he got from fortnite got him to bronze quickly and to Silver very quickly, compared to me who also was like him being their first fps took much longer as I only played minecraft.

I was mainly talking about aim training with aim trainer software.
Yes you do need aim training or even you MUST train your aim but if youre gold or below, train your aim on firing range might be enough, no need for kovaak/aimlab routine playlist yet.

But aim training softwares are more efficient and you will gain more for less the time, the are quite literally called AIM TRAINING SOFTWARES, been made to maximize aiming, ofc Range and Deathmatch would get the player used to Valorant mechanics, but some aim training at the side won't hurt anyone, a good example is In a comp match you get maybe 20 duels that are 50/50 in 40m, in a deathmatch you get around 40 duels that are 50/50 in 10m and in an aim trainer you get 60+ targets in specialized environments in 1 minute.

at that elo if they do the following they'll be fine

-clear every corner
-always peek together / trade each other, basically play together no matter what, except when you don't have the number advantage then you can try to make plays
-aim train on aimlab/kovaaks

step on step guide to get out of silver.

give them a proper aim routine, around 10-15 mins of aimlabs, 1-3 deathmatches, and a good 5 minutes in the range practicing counter strafe, flicking, and spraying

then if they have 15-30mins of free time, make them go to valo tracker and look for their map with the worst hs%, make them practice crosshairs placement on those maps in a custom

after all that, queue comp

just play deathmatch lol (im immo2 and only play deathmatch cause i have no time to play rank anymore) , ur practising peeking most of the times.
Peeking like wide swing , immediate tight crouch peek, jiggles , jump peeks.

Also watching pro play is useless if ur under diamond (aim>strat) , but there are cheesy strats to win against lower ranks like judge in smokes and odin spamming

stick to playing more and they'll get better. (minimum 5 rank games per week to train gamesense) u can skip gimmicky shit like aimlabs or kovaks, just use the range or dms.

maybe get better pcs or setups (144hz and about 180-200 fps is good enough cuz thats my specs)
mouse matters alot (huge difference between a 10 dollar and 80 dollar mouse)

it'll take them prob 6 months to hit diamond with consistent playing.

Since you have a team : focus on gameplan and fundamentals and not on aim, if they have no aim they could understand the concept of crossfire, lurk, manipulate def rotation, hide-and-seek postplant (Thats how I felt in love in this game during beta despite being bad), doublepeak etc

#37
jixk
1
Frags

make them play a shit ton of ranked TOGETHER in a discord have them trio duo Q or five stack and this might be cringy but have a awp merchant a shot gun merchant and a odin merchant that will SURELY get u a map at least

condense there agent pools to max 3 agents they have alot to learn no need to add agents on top of that that being said make them play
breach, fade omen, clove jett, raze cypher, deadlock and for the 5th try double senti or double smokes with viper make it as cringe as humanly possible to play against ur team
so have two comps
jett,deadlock,omen,viper,fade
breach,raze,cypher,clove,viper/fade maybe

Depending on how new they are some aimlabs or kovaaks to help with mouse control

spam dms and tdms

if they aim train, and one of them is comfortable igling, they can win. Even if 4 of them are dumb, if 1 person has good calls and they can all shoot, its winnable.

Get a decent rig and hardware, use aim training and mechanic guide on youtube, and watch more pro plays in tourney or stream VOD

Make them comfortable on a Neon Viper Tejo Kj Omen comp then run it every map

Make sure you do your job as a coach to improve their aim (through deathmatches/Aimlabs) as well as training your igl to make mid round calls
