Reasons why EWC is not mickey (give your arguments against this if you can use logic):
- VCT Stage 1, the tournament that qualified teams to Toronto (which you guys do not say is Mickey despite some momentum/warm-up disadvantages for 1st seed teams in Toronto playoffs), is the same tournament that qualified teams to EWC/gave advantages for the 3rd/4th place VCT Stage 1 teams in the EWC qualifer. Teams were trying to qualify to EWC and Toronto when playing in VCT Stage 1 (EWC was a higher priority though since it has a higher prize pool).
- The higher prize pool (1.25mil > 1mil. 500k for the winner at EWC > 350k for the winner at Toronto)
- No byes for any teams (no teams are instantly in playoffs). This makes it so that all teams are equally warmed-up when in playoffs and Single-Elim is valid (the real best team wins).
If FNC lost early, would you still think EWC's the same tier as Masters? EWC could be the same tier as Kickoff Masters, but not the same tier as Masters. Not until they change that format.

Bo1s are irrelvant though There is a bo3 double-elimination in the groups (where the bo1 is).
Furthermore, the EWC playoffs doesnt give an advantage to the higher seeding teams in EWC groups and rather does a coin toss to decide who gets to choose which team is team A and team B.
I'm not sure about the BO1 hate, I agree we should never have BO1 for a bracket, and thats why EWC is a semi-joke, but I wonder if I rather have a double round robin in BO1 with the 12 team in same groups (110 maps max), than 2 groups of 6 with potentially a group of death (90 maps max)
3 BO1 have the advantage to be more hype than 1 BO3 since every maps count, but I agree it's ass for playoffs or any bracket

It probably lacks the most important thing to an event, "hype". Watching mastersToronto, the hype differential is heaven and earth and that obviously translates to player motivation. You can kind of see the difference in excitement for players who win rounds in masters and ewc, you could even argue that players are way more hyped for kickoff masters or a lock/in. Honestly I don't see this tournament as legacy changing or argument builders so I would put this event at a B.
or its just that theyve not needed to show their opinion until it affects them, eg in this case where the esports theyre casting/playimg/watching, but the rest of their life they dont feel like it affects them.

i would say EWC is like CWC in football terms, good tournament with large prize pool but not that important

- More teams than both masters
I would also call it a mickey mouse if there are random teams competing which isn't the case here.
The only thing you can argue is the production quality or maybe the single elimination playoffs (which is not that bad) or you are just biased against this from the start

I mean the community can want more 3rd tournaments and it still be a mickey mouse tournament. But what made EWC mickey mouse is that it was using the old map pool, qualifiers were on the tejo meta patch and many of the teams either played with subs or didn't try that hard, single elim playoffs and then two teams had subs during the swiss, and a lot more. That's why EWC is mickey mouse, not because its a 3rd party tournament.
