Family isn't a deep fry kind of family so I can't make any katsu. I usually do:

Water (fill pot)
some beef (bite sized chunks) (boil briefly and then cook in pressure cooker to tenderize)
2 Japanese curry block (dissolve in beef broth from pressurized beef)
3 diced carrots (cook in curry before adding beef)
3 diced potatoes (cook in curry before adding beef)
1 diced apple (cook in curry before adding beef)
to feed a family of 3
