I agree with a lot of what was said, but now I’m curious as to what your definition of journalist is. If investigative content creation isn’t journalism, then idk what is.
james_ff and George Geddes are doing, in essence, the same thing: they gather information and report it to the public. The only difference is, they report on different information. James focuses on scrims and uses that as information to spread to the public, while George Geddes, in one way or another, gets his information. (tbh idk how he gets the info)
By your definition, if someone who is nosy cannot be considered a journalist, then George isn’t a journalist either. He doesn’t write for an organization, (which I mean tbf already stops most people from calling themselves journalists as real journalists have to go through layers and layers of management and editing to get their news publish, as per my journalist friend), George also doesn’t openly interview players for information about roster moves and somehow gets “reliable” information from his sources. (I mean most stuff he posts is true) But how on earth does he get this info without being nosy? Without tailing people and using connections to ask reliable sources about roster leaks?
But really, the most important issue here isn’t if james_ff is a real journalist, because frankly I don’t give a fuck if he is one or not. He is a member of the valorant community that provides information to the public, and we will not stand to see him get pushed around by George Geddes and other “prominent figures” in the space. They are 1 human being and have no more right than anyone does to say who gets to report on info and who doesn’t.
You’re right. Beef between people happens every single minute. But beef without reason is just being a dick. There is 0 reason to hate on a member of the community just because he is doing the same thing as another person. Which is reporting facts
If you really want other people to think that valorant people are toxic and immature, then go ahead and continue to denigrate everyone who tries to help better the community.
It’s really a shame that people who choose to look down upon others instead of helping them grow and the ones that are the most well known in the community.
