Of the main roles in pro team (duelist, initiator, controller, sentinel, flex), what role do you think works best for IGLing?

Nah it should be an initiator that hangs back more like a sova or fade or a secondary smokes like a viper or harbor
They're the ones calling the plays so it only makes sense to be the one setting them up
Controller or Sentinels are the best roles with Sentinels being even easier
I donât think teams should have a true igl. Just get 5 elite players and teach one to igl mainly for the beginning of rounds. Wasting a player spot for a mid player seems dumb especially when good teams have everyone mid rounding and communicating
I think all teams should be able to communicate and have input but itâs very important for a team to have 1 central voice that makes all decisions, or else the game plan will get mixed up and there will be conflict
all decisions? yikes. new to pro valorant scene? go watch good teamsâ comm videos to see how they actually play
âI donât think teams should have a true igl. Just get 5 elite players and teach one to igl mainly for the beginning of roundsâ
This is extremely stupid and what I was disagreeing with. Cohesive midrounding is one of the most important aspects of competitive play, and why a central IGL is so important. Too many voices will do nothing but cause confusion and conflict.
Iglâing stops being âwe go B this round guysâ once you get past iron
Edit: you edited your response, but allow me to clarify what I meant
A team needs a voice to make all final decisions. Obviously other playerâs input is important.
Also comms vids are not representative of a teamâs true environment⌠they need to hide strats, reads, etc.
You are genuinely an idiot. If youâve paid any attention to the scene youâd recognize why every single team has an IGL
can u read, jesus⌠I said a team should have an igl but not someone who puts igl > raw talent. igl guides the team but good teams know what to do and other players become the central voice during mid rounding
Other players shouldnât be the main voice during midrounding.
Having cohesive midrounds >>> a 5th cracked player
Thereâs a reason FNS has won so muchâŚ
Your video just proves his point. You must be new to tactical FPS games since you're stating that an IGL is not important.
You're being deservedly laughed at for such a statement, be that in a game like Valorant or CS.
nothing is funnier than seeing someone say something so utterly wrong with an insane amount of confidence
Sentinel its not the right answer here. The igl needs to be together with the most people from the team to coordinate the execs. Most of the time the sentinel is the lurker, which difficult this calls.
An option is having a igl for pre-rounds and a different one for mid rounds calls
i think most of the teams has an 'execs coordinator' that usually plays duelist or initiator, while the IGL lurks and reads the map. idk if it's true but I heard Derke sometimes calls on Fnatic, and I remember Will said that Asuna coordinates timings for his entries back in 100T.
There's actually a difference between coordinating entry and mid-round calling.
The mid-round call mostly comes from the IGL (even though not always, depending on IGL style and how much leeway is provided for the rest of the players to make adjustment calls based on info received).
The execute coordination is mostly done by the first 2-3 players entering the respective area/site (in CS is more related to the numbers, in Valorant the agents usually have an impact on who those 2-3 players are, rather than the "first players on the map").
personally I like sentinel or (primary) initiator for igl. With those agents you control a lot of space with utility so you have a better idea of what's going on.
I would have them on any role other than Duelist. In case of initiator I prefer the IGL to be playing Sova/Fade
Or else Controllers Sentinels whichever they specialize in
sentinel for sure if he can multitask(i mean flank or hold site while giving calls) or controller who likes reactive gameplay like boaster and ange1 finally initiators who have good sense in timings of opponents
My feel is controller or initiator. Initiators usually kickstart plays, so they need to have the feel for where/when to do so. Controllers well... control space better by hiding LOS. They have a wider range of where their utility can reach which means having a wider feel for the entire map is key, something that a good IGL needs. Sentinels are also good at controlling space, but many of them control a small area or specific area and are not able to have a great read on things outside their area until they are fed information from others. The delay in having to be fed the information will build with each proceeding step. I do think it's probably controller that should be doing a lot of the IGLing both preround and pre-exec, but when it comes to actually calling the execs it should probably swap to the initiator or even the duelist since they will have the best read on what they've been running into on site. Then handing it back over to the controller after the exec happens.
100% Sentinel/ Flash Init
Smoke players can frag out more when not IGLing for example: Marved, Mako and pAncada. Those are only a few..
People saying sentinelâŚ
IGLs should stick with their teams, not lurk. Itâs impossible to call T rounds when youâre lurking away from the site hit.
Iâm a big fan of IGLs who entry. Not duelists, but flash initiators or controllers who blow their smokes and hit site since theyâre useless after that.
I think fnatic is the absolute best demonstration of how good an IGL can be when on the controller role. They can set up on the fly with what kind of fights their teams get into because they have all the control over how map gets cut up during executes.
but if the controller role is taken by gods like mako i'd probably want my IGL on one of the flash initiators. anything else I swear is trolling / praying for it to be a holy shit check his pc kind of day.
