Team Vitality makes it to finals with three-map win over FUT
In the first match of the day, Vitality fought through a tough three-map series against FUT to earn the victory. Starting on Pearl, Vitality ran a solo-Duelist comp with Neon against the double-Duelist Phoenix and Neon from FUT. FUT won the first pistol, but Vitality prevented the bonus round win and chained a bunch of round wins together. Sayonara on Sova was dominant on defense, helping Vitality reach the half with a small 7-5 lead.
FUT then secured the second pistol to tie the game up at 7-7, and despite a bonus round loss, ran away to a 12-9 lead. Both s0pp and yetujey also stepped up on defense, yet Vitality stoutly took the map to overtime. Despite losing both pistols, Vitality eventually clutched up and earned a 17-15 map win in overtime, with Sayonara leading the way.
FUT had to bounce back on Ascent, running more Phoenix and Neon against a near-mirror on the Vitality side. For this map, Vitality won both pistols, starting on the defense side. Chronicle on Vyse was doing his best to slow down the attack from FUT, but both teams reached the half tied at 6-6. Vitality earned that second pistol win but was ecoed soon after, which sparked a confident 13-8 win.
That meant the series came down to Split, with Vitality starting strong on a Neon and Raze comp against another near-mirror matchup from FUT. Jolting ahead 4-0 with a pistol win and bonus conversion, Vitality ended the first half up 9-3. However, FUT managed to mirror that strong start on the second half, reaching overtime. Yet, unlike map one, this overtime win was fast for Vitality.
Sayonara and Team Vitality win a round despite a mistake on the Raze ultimate. This 14-12 win was once again led by Sayonara, but on Duelist this time, ending the series with 70 kills in the 2-1 victory.
Team Heretics clinches last Masters London slot over Eternal Fire
Match one mattered, but the lower bracket match between Team Heretics and Eternal Fire dictated which final EMEA team would make it to London. Heretics had a little bit of added pressure, not only due to past expectations of international success, but also due to the chance of benjyfishy attending an event in his home country.
Like the first match of the day, the series was a long three-mapper, starting with Lotus. Heretics ran a double-Duelist comp with Raze and Neon, which EF matched aside from a different Sentinel. Both benjyfishy and Wo0t started hot, helping Heretics reach a 6-2 lead. EF did put together some good rounds to end the half, but still trailed 7-5.
benjyfishy hits a clean shot in a round loss against EF.When the sides swapped, EF won the pistol and, despite losing the bonus, put together more round wins than Heretics started with. Reaching map point up 12-9, Heretics had to scrap just to try and take the map to overtime, but EF closed it out with a 13-11 Lotus win.
Fracture was a true tale of two halves, as both teams continued to run Neon and Raze. EF started the first half on fire, with a pistol and bonus round win. As nekky led the way, EF entered the half up 9-3. The comeback from Heretics needed to start now, and koshmaras answered the call. After a pistol and bonus round win of their own, Heretics ended Fracture 13-10 with a near-perfect second half.
That left the chances of London on Ascent, with the two teams finally changing up the comps, still running double-Duelist, but with three unique choices in Jett, Phoenix, and Neon. While EF secured the first pistol, Heretics won the eco afterward to shift momentum. Both Duelists from Heretics led the way to a 9-3 half, needing to close it out to reach London. It didn't start well as EF converted the pistol and bonus, but as soon as the game reached a late 10-10 tie, Heretics closed it out and once again won the map 13-10 to secure that final London slot. Heretics truly returned to form with something the team first attempted in a time of desperate need: Wo0t on Duelist, who ended the series with 64 kills.
With these results, Heretics will face FUT Esports in the lower bracket finals to see which team will end up as the third seed. As for Vitality, the team waits in the finals to fight the victor for the top two seeds.
