i mean the books i genuinely loved were the legend trilogy by marie lu
but i read that when i was in school, no other book ever pulled me in like that one did back then
Ngl I'm not really in dystopia as a genre for books, you can probably guess that my favorite is fantasy, but I'm happy that you found your book-soulmate
What other books do you like and recommend?
tbh i havent read much since then
im not much of a book reader, its just that 1 that really stuck out to me
ONG the goat day changed my life back in school 🔥
i was told the book would be adapted into a movie trilogy but it never happened 💔
true but i think ive seen more norwegian flags than danish flags here
ill change to norway anyways W flag
Dostoyevsky?
Wow
I didn't know you knew ball like that for books
I only read like 10 last year :(
But tbf, I read these long books, they are like 300-400 pages long each
What genre do you like? So I can help you with some recs to get you started
Maybe art of war might be good ngl
Or An Inspector Calls maybe
Or Of Mice and Men
Zombie/horror themed series by Charlie Higson, first book is called "The Dead"
Tbh
Horror/zombie is my least favorite, but I respect your choice, it seems interesting from what I've read about it
It is really good, there's also the classic Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus, Michael Vey, Wings of fire one of my favs, Bravelands, Warhammer 40k individual books and more
Ye
I think I'm probably going to read Percy Jackson soon because I was always interested in mythology.
I also heard about those Warhammer books, but I haven't read them
You have good taste I'd say
If you ever decide to read a warhammer book, my favorite one of all is called the Devastation of Baal which I highly recommend. You'll enjoy reading whatever you pick, have fun
oh boi
I have thought about reading to kill a mockingbird ngl
For classics, I read Macbeth and Merchant of Venice
Cool list :)
To Kill A Mockingbird is one of the few books I actually bothered fully reading for my ELA class. Great pick, imo.
the secrets of the immortal nicholas flammel
I've never met anybody who knows this series but it's so peak
Nicholas Flammel, from Harry Potter????
Jokes aside, your 2nd sentence is true, I've never heard of this ngl
I've seen what the book is briefly about rn
And it seems interesting, in terms of plot, I'll check it out.
Ty
its the book that propelled me into reading book and not just playing game and all
i've a whole collection, the main story and time to time I'd find some that are basically spinoffs.
I remember my friends loving that book, I never read it personally myself tho unfortunately
i need to find books outside of harry potter but idek where to begin when looking for a book
I can give you some recs, since I did read Harry Potter, when I was young.
I'm not sure if you have the same tastes as me, but these are my favorite books rn that are similar with HP:
Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien
His Dark Materials - Pullman
But be warned, with LOTR, it's quite slow paced compared to HP
Sry in advance
The books I mentioned are not similar to HP in terms of plot and world, but I did mean fantasy and magic, that's where the books are similar in a way
It's romance SF kind of, basically a girl with a dream to become a valorant pro (yes, she even get on to win champs later on) get attacked by one of the biggest monsters in the world. She managed to survive the first wave of attack, but got stuck under debris. A boy save her and tell her he can kill the monster, since she knows a shit ton about magic she propulse him and he kill the monster in one blow. And then they get to know each other, discovering the other past who is really not what each expected, but they also help each other no matter what's happening, wether it's distance, being scared, trauma, curses and all.
They also meet a character with the power to control the entier informatic world later but she is cool and all but writing about that section would take up a lot of words and it just make the story way deeper :v
Interesting
Why not make the story deeper and more rich
Would it not be nicer to read?
It does have some depth (for exemple, they go all around the globe : An island close to the UK, Korea, Sao Paulo, North Africa and America), her winning champs is pretty much a side quest and her dreams, but like from where she comes from it makes up like half of the story, and that 3rd character make the other half.
For exemple : For that 3rd Character, they need to know what happened to her and how she became like that, since she can't recall anything, and they know someone is looking for her, but they don't know who, why, when etc...
the locked tomb series by tamsyn muir
she has an incredible way with dialogue and it's one of those sci-fi mysteries where every exact word choice is deliberate and fans spend hours dissecting it all
What
I've never heard of this
I'll check it out, I've never read an author where their words are analysed that much
The lore is crazy and we've been waiting five years for the last book so the fan theories go DEEP
The second one (Harrow the Ninth) has two of my favorite twists ever, it's confusing to read but worth the payoff
the tv show is a mess, book quality started slipping around blood of olympus and jumped off a hill after
Ah
I remember now
I was thinking about reading Percy Jackson or not and I remember hearing about this, like a few years ago
agree to disagree. im judging it mainly based on book accuracy, but idk maybe ignoring that people might like it
Ofc you would like reading about cats
But from what I've briefly seen, it looks a bit like LOTR in a way but cats
Whats the reason for u assuming i like reading abt cats...?
Also no its a lot different
I remember my friends reading it and they said it was really good
W book
diary of a wimpy kid
cuz its the only book that i can read without having difficulties
W
Its a shame that it's gone to trash with the new diary of a wimpy kid books
used to read a lot of indie books from local weeb creator and i got it from there; nusa literata. it's a short stories compiled into a book, with a theme of indo-malays folklore.
nowadays tho, i just read whatever isekai manga/manhwa available.
Damm kinda rare to see someone still read manhwa after getting into webnovels. Like manhwa or manhua feel mid compared to Chinese webnovels or webnovels in general. From my experience most people stop reading comics after getting into webnovels.
usually i go into a phase where i read only 1 for like 2 months, cuz I read way too fast
Same, I read webnovels way too fast as well. Got bored of actual well written slow paced webnovels nowadays so I just randomly search for a particular genre and read multiple different webnovels in short span of time.
Currently I am just spam reading martial arts, comedy with wuxia elements. Probably gonna read some horror genre webnovels soon. I just waste my free time on those fast paced time pass type webnovels. And after like a couple of years I started watching anime again somehow but through reaction videos. Looks like I am suffering from adhd. I need to control myself.
are wuxia/xianxia/murim good as novels?
i dont try much I just read rofan or some academy shit
Yeah the top tiers one are really good. Average one are decent too. They can have some really unique and interesting plots. Especially xianxia(immortality and high fantasy stiff) is generally considered the best genre. For example the webnovels considered the best generally are of this genre like reverend insanity or er gen works. Wuxia is more grounded basically murim. Well murim is literally based on wuxia. There is another called xuanhuan mixture of Chinese and western elements(lord of the mystery for example).
Best thing about Chinese webnovels is the diversity especially. Don't read urban life webnovels tho unless they have very very high rating since almost all of them will have some racism in them against Japan and USA especially. They can be so fun to read but the authors will ruin the story at like 500 chapters just to include racism.
For the best one try shadow slave(english original webnovel), reverend insanity, lotm and er gen's novels. Otherwise try a site called wtr lab. You can filter out genres you don't like. The site is insanely good but keep in mind that many of the novels there are ai translated or web translated. Use that site to filter out webnovels maybe.
Or you can check out the site novelupdates too.
SS and LOTM ARE NOT WUXIA/XIANXIA
ER GENS NOVELS ARE FULL HAREM FANG YUAN'S NAME IS LEGIT Great Love Immortal Venerable
good novels nonetheless but its so far off from what i asked its not even in the ballpark.
ill see the site
I thought you were asking for no harem webnovels in general so I mentioned SS and lotm. And I was lazy so just mentioned the mainstream one. Just filter out harem in advance search and you will find wuxia and xianxia novel you want. I don't really read mainstream stuff anymore so can't recommend you popular good stuff rn.
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Norwegian Wood or any Murakami book really
1984
The Berlin Stories
Darkness at Noon
1984 is W pick
Murakami is good ig
But the Stoic and history books, ehhhhh idk
Besides the stoicism, I find Meditations kinda funny because it's literally a roman emperor talking to you about issues which you can relate to which is a wild experience.
Murakami is like a less crazy Fujimoto in some sense, which is probably why I enjoy his books to this day (although I do hate how he writes women like they're objects which is a massive red flag.)
You should 100% give The Berlin Stories and Darkness at Noon a shot, I think you will be pleasantly surprised
Not my type of book but it seems interesting from what I've seen online, it seems really good and unique from all of the other books I've seen
I might read it ngl
The Illuminae Files is my favorite book series ever, the writing style is completely different to pretty much every book and its really fun
Reading "A Little Life" and "All The Bright Places" presently.
Love:
At the Mountains of Madness
lovecraft is peak twin
genocidal organ
very niche japanese sf author but i like it
os lusiadas is a banger
but i lowkenuinely prefer any sherlock holmes book by acd
Sherlock Holmes is goated
I remember watching the BBC TV show of it
Man search for meaning
David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell
Animal farm
Everything is fucked
Subtle art of not giving a fuck
The 100 most influential people by Michael H. Hart
The Alchemist
Atomic Habits
Jerusalem by Karen Armstrong
And then there were none by Agatha Christie
I was planning to read the alchemist, but I haven't gotten around to reading it, but tbf, I have read the little prince
Animal Farm is a W choice btw
Yes i was confused read animal farm back then in beginning, At first I thought it's just about the failure of communism depicted through the figures of livestock, but then i just reread this book for many times, it turned out that this was much deeper, a critique of the fragility of democracy. I see it as a criticism of the democratic governments established by newly independent countries that quickly descended into totalitarianism
Ye
My school did Animal farm
And we looked at how Orwell was critiquing the Russian Revolution at the time
to sleep in a sea of stars by christopher paolini is PEAK fiction like omg i love that book
Science fiction is interesting ngl
Sad that I haven't read any science fiction books in my life, sounds crazy, ik
Nothing wrong with that
I also used to read Harry Potter, and I still do, but I've found other gems of books that are similar in a way
I mostly read LN. The one that I am reading now (which I really liike is) is Chitose san in ramune bottle. It is currently getting a anime adaptation.
I read books called the spook's apprentice when i was younger, really good and scary. don't know if it's still scary for older ppl
