i tried to watch it when i was much younger and couldnt get into it at all and just dropped it to continue watch whatever shonen slop i watched back then. much later after i got into manga and the art of naoki urasawa i gave it another go and loved it.
ppl usually say its too slow but to me the way naoki urasawa writes these mystery thriller stories like monster, 20th century boys and pluto is captivating and im literally at the edge of my seat when watching (or reading). johan liebert is probably my favourite villain in anime.

story: this is hard because my preference is dark/high fantasy trope like Tolkien esque so I choose (Berserk,Frieren,Witch hat atelier)
100% attack on titan, but fullmetal alchemist would be a secondary choice probably. code geass also a good pick
