Acend - Champs 2021
Optic - Reykjavik 2022
Fnatic - Lock/In
Sentinels - Madrid 2024
T1 - Bangkok 2025
reykjavik was missing the best team itw at the time FPX because of ukraine who won the next event.... you cant say that win is legit. and Lock/In was a single elim (only single elim event we have had) in which they cameback from 11-3 on final map if you played that tournament 10 times you would get a different winner every time.
they lost EMEA to LULquid and Flukyo had: LOUD(Americas Champions) with internal problems, PRX(Pacific Champions) without something(Pacific MVP), EG Demon1 (Future World Champion) with VISA issues and no practice with the team.
LOUD at lockin had 2 rookies and the whole team had health problems during the event and only the first match was post poned, aspas was going through physiotherapy during the event with his back and arms hurting, Less was taking serums mid games and even had to go to the hospital right after the series.
When they played against each other again LOUD beat them twice at the biggest stage. Lets be honest, LOUD closes that Icebox 99/100 times they play, thats why it was a fluke
1 was missing the best team itw at the time, 1 was the only single elim event we have had in the game in which to win the GF they cameback from 11-3, 1 had the team winning in the GF get shit stomped a few days prior and just hero played to victory and then went out in groups regionally right after, and 1 had the winning team falling apart internally get lucky against other teams falling apart internally and met a inexperienced team in GF which they had a good map pool match up against and havent done anything since. how are you gonna say these arent flukes if you played those tournaments over or even just the GF these teams would win 1/10 times excluding optic
The only real fluke is Acend, because they were bailed out by the riot refs being shit, and the riot decision makers being even more shit. They quite literally lost in their first match to Keyd, but got bailed by a cam ruling. They almost lost WITH a 7 round advantage. They would have been clobbered by x10 and went out 0-2, but they fluked out. These guys are all in french tier 2, and they're alright, but no other champs winning player is in t2 (sacy is retired, and s1mon is the head monk in the temple that prays on EDG's downfall).
That's the fluke of all flukes, nithing even comes close.
All of emea was fucked that event, but my biased brain tells me FPX would have lost to Zeta so who really cares that they weren't there.
But on like a real note, FPX, Optic, and Loud were clearly the top 3 teams of that year, so I don't think it's fair to say it's catagorically a fluke. Would FPX be a hard game for Optic? Yes, absolutely. But, it was a game that would be close. M1 was also the strongest form of optic (after groups) so I don't think it can be called a fluke. Even with the worst conditions, the #2 seed beating the #1 seeds is not a fluke.
