a lot of people really arent taking ewc seriously, with tons of people brushing it off as 'just an off season tournament'??
i think we should probably start considering it in a way higher regard given the prize pool and competition going into it
It's for sure more valuable than even a entire split for some teams like g2 who have like confirmed slot for champs now. Valyn literally said it. And he said it that players may not want to try hard cause of tight schedule but the org wants them to try hard. Ewc is big chance for these orgs to make some free money.
Horrible format, no Lan so far, poor scheduling, horrible production, and first time the tournament has been run. What do you expect?
The first few games weren't even streamed.
Money is only one factor. I could hold a 3 million dollar money match bo1 in my backyard and it wouldn't make the victor the best team in the world.
Yea but you're asking why people are calling it a mickey right now. And the answer is that right now the tournament is horrible.
Maybe in the future it'll be bigger, but these tournaments also often rebrand and shift, and they never give a lot of forethought to these things anyway. So prob not. Either way that's just speculation and right now the tournament sucks.
Qualifiers are also a big part of the tournament tho. They directly inform who plays in the main event, and if other teams or the community believes the path to qualify was bad—and therefore the qualifying teams don't deserve to be there and aren't better than the people they beat out—then it invalidates a lot of the respect you get for winning the tournament. It also makes it easier to brush it off when or if you lose.
the top 2 teams from each region go which is equivalent to the qualification for Bangkok/madrid lol. the emea and americas qualifiers were fine (competitively speaking), apac is garbage and idk about china
I think regardless of how bad the qualifiers are the top 2 teams from each region are going regardless so the level of play is high
