FPX is not CIS

Comments:

please tell me how is FPX a CIS team, i can somewhat understand salty NA fans when they got obliterated by Gambit, but i'd love an explanation since i always see a lot of threads on this topic, thanks.

CIS players

  1. Shao = Russia
  2. Suygetsu = Russia

European Players

  1. Zyppan = Sweden
  2. Ardiis = Latvia

and now what im wondering

Ange1 is Ukrainian, and Ukraine is not even apart of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) and they're fully geographically located in Europe, if you do a quick google search you could confirm both of these things, i also think ukraine wouldn't like to be placed in that group either (CIS)

they also have a swedish coach sooo

*edit for those who dont know
9 CIS countries are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan

CIS has 9 members and ukraine is not one of them (+ 2 observing ones which are not really that important)
quick google search will show you everything, there is a whole wikipedia page on it if you are curious (this was a reply for the brazil guy above)

Then reply to me dude

Besides I doubt the actual geographical definition of CIS matters in here, they compete in the CIS vct and therefore they’re part of the CIS region, that’s it, no need to overcomplicate things when that’s all that matters

Generally Ukraine is considered part of the CIS region in esports despite not actually being CIS. Probably because Russian and other CIS players often times play with Ukrainians.

#9

doesn’t matter
only the desperate NA fans think there is a difference
FPX, Gambit, Navi are all European teams
Russia is Europe.
Ukraine is also Europe.

If this were the case then why dont they compete in EU quals instead of a separate CIS?

Because Europe geographically is different from regions in game. 75% of the Russian population lives in Europe for example. Eu doesn’t always mean the political Eu, we mostly mean Europe as a whole and the same goes for the valorant region eu we just mean Europe. Navi and gambit have mostly Russian players so are European. Fpx is also fully European, they just qual on another region in Valorant.

#74

Man what do you think a subregion is?

#11
Mjtchell
4
Frags
+

Ukraine and Latvia are considered EU geographically yes.
Politically only Latvia is EU, and Ukraine has applied to be apart of the EU
As for Valorant Competitive regions go they are BOTH considered CIS
That makes 4/5 CIS

You need to learn the difference between politcal, geographical, and valorant competitve regions as there is a difference.

#21
tonko
0
Frags
+

4/5 CIS what are u smoking my man, pass it to me
u can be playing in a different qualifier and still be european you do realise that? and no im not talking about the european union, that doesn't really matter, im pretty sure if u come and ask zyppan what region he's from he wont tell u anything other than european

the main reason why im talking about FPX being European is pretty simple, because it ticks both political and geographical standpoints

Political = trying to join EU in the future (Currently not apart of anything, not even CIS, they left it)
Geographically = European 100%

Valorant qualifier might be because they had Dimasick who is kazakh beforehand, and they stuck with it to not mess anything up, it could change in the future.

and even if u deny everything, a coach is still apart of the team, and a vital part of the team, it would make 3/6 team members european, and other CIS (if u really want to go that far to deny the ange1 part)

#23
hiyo

coach never counts as core btw, this is idiotic, FPX is considered by valorant standards as a CIS team

All you're doing is trying to insult me when youre not even thinking.
Riot considers Latvia (Ardiis) and Uktraine (Ange1) CIS
4 players are considered CIS and therefore according to Riot are CIS
This is why they played in CIS quals
https://www.vlr.gg/63586/natus-vincere-vs-funplus-phoenix-champions-tour-cis-stage-1-challengers-1-gf
As you can see there, they qualed through CIS quals
You can literally look this up. Its right there.
Political and Geographic labels dont mean shit as riot recognizes this as a CIS team, and they compete against CIS teams
I really shouldnt have to spell it out so simply.

Still all European players, they only count as Cis as an ingame region. In my case i just support European teams, not teams that are the Eu region in Valorant. Gmb, navi and fpx are all European.

#36

they could play in the EU qualifiers as well
nobody knows why is there a difference

#38
tonko
0
Frags

its nationality and i guess a tiny bit of political in this one thus me mentioning CIS, not a qualifier that determines whether you are european or not, they also had dimasick (a kazakh) play for them before they acquired their new player and were 3/5 CIS at that time, so it could be the reason they're still playing there, things might change the next qualifier (if they have to play it)

there are league of legends teams playing in CIS league that are not full CIS and have players composing from other countries other than the CIS ones

#37
SaltyWaffIe

One reason could be due to ping issues and easier for those players in eastern Europe to play in CIS rather than having high ping for EU, although I could be wrong as I am not super familiar with the ping situation in EMEA.

CIS is not a geographical region.

It's a political organization, kinda like EU, that former Soviet states are a part of, but Ukraine isn't, because of their less than friendly relationship with russia

But in esports, it's a separate (sub)region, sometimes grouped together with Europe, and Ukraine is a part of the region in most esports

#43

Why is EU so desperate to be relevant?

who cares, they are all european teams and if you are european you should support them, doesnt matter what qualifier they played in, this is just an imaginary system made by riot, CSGO and Dota there is only EU region, no CIS or Turkey, if valorant was popular af in DACH and they had a huge amount of good players they would probably get their own qualifier too, would they not be EU? ofc not lmao, only reason CIS and TR is a thing is because of viewership and playerbase they bring not because it is an actual distinctive region lmao, let the retarded americans cope a little saying they are not EU, maybe some day that even CIS pros/players call it all EU, no1 from CIS would say they arent EU, same if my country had our own qualifier I would still call myself EU, btw CIS matches are played on Poland servers aka EU country lmao

I think where people are getting confused is that there are different connotations that go with CIS a political one and a regional one. As a region I think people still consider Ukraine to be apart of CIS but the country itself ended its participation in CIS statutory bodies in 2018.
Just googled it I really don't know anything about it

FPX thinking that open qualification in eu is lottery. Especialy in start when you play only 1 map. So they decided play in CIS because teams are less. 2 people from CIS enough for playing. And actually Ukrainians can decide which part of they are playing for (CIS or EU) (If I remember right that was saying by angel or shao on streams or in video some time ago)
So we have 3 CIS players and 3 EU players in 5 players stack.

#97

Ah so they CHOSE to be CIS and in fact ARE CIS

You can choose when for playing need only 2 people. And you can take 2 from this part and 2 from this.

CIS in cybersport is just countries that used to be part of USSR and it has nothing to do with politics and geography
