genuinely curious
there are many tier 1 teams, lots of money, and pretty good games overall

its not mickey mouse because its hard asf to win it
but people call it mickey mouse because of this and because of oil money and bad format yes
People don’t like that it’s single elimination too, it’s part of the reason why lock-in also gets seen as lesser than masters.
i meant like mickey mouse
like how ppl say that TH still have 0 trophy wins
Well ya when your talking about VCT trophies you arent gonna consider EWC cause it isnt VCT, nobody will talk about general trophies because then that shit gets too complicated with all the off season events.
at least for EWC 2025 there were BO1 openers, played on a different patch where split and pearl were in the map pool despite being taken out for stage 2, doesn’t actually reward teams that make a deep run other than money (champs points matters a lot here)
servers were played on 40 ping if i remember correctly
lock/in is an official vct event, it rewarded the winner an extra slot for their region
navi only made internationals because of the extra slots for example
noooo that doesnt fit my agenda
i mean yes lowkey it was a bad bracket so i would call it a mickey
IF IT WASNT FOR fnc’s total domination and not dropping a single map (except for in the gf) - it was not a mickey because they did prove they were the best itw (despite the dookie bracket)
most teams didnt try to play it seriously, for example g2 during EWC banned ascent (which was literally their best map regionally by stage 2)
seems to me most teams just hid strats
they probably didn't think they had a shot regardless since they were missing leaf so it's kind of a weird example to use G2
I don't think so. He played with g2 during groups anyways. Doesnt make sense to have that mindset that "a team wont have a shot"
exactly thats why they lost. cuz they didnt play ascent and were saving strats..
he just gave you an example of a team not trying their best for EWC and u reply back by saying "they didnt think they had a shot regardless" ?
he's one of their best players and wasnt there, i wouldn't blame them if they didn't try because they didn't think it was worth it
now ask yourself if they would do the same shit if they were playing in a masters or champs
like 10% only goes to the player, like s0m said. they get paid enough anyways
it exists outside of the main circuit therefore it's a mickey mouse, nobody really cares for it either
It's not an official riot event. Just like the other games. They are just a huge prize pool winning tournament that orgs love for the money.
not a vct event
bo1's
Playing against multiple different teams in the same day
online qualifiers
woeful production
G2 and DRX not having their full roster
The actual event not even being on LAN 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
id love for it to feel like a vct win but even as a fan i cant pretend it does. it definitely means something but its not like winning a masters or champs...
people call it "mickey" mostly because they feel they should devalue the tournament due to saudi money etc etc which i understand
but purely from a sporting perspective it was still difficult to win + huge prize pool etc its more of a "nice to have" than some legacy defining moment
No one gave a fuck. Tournament value is solely related to the community surrounding it and the community rejected it. It could've have one billion dollars prize pool and it would still be irrelevant
It's just because people don't support it morally but that shit doesn't mean anything when it comes to a tournaments value just means the backing is corrupted and fucked.
Morally they're fucked but that doesn't mean fuck all about a tournaments value or integrity it's easier to just accept what the clowns say because if someone truly hates something they will always find a way to make it make sense if their head.
I like EWC because it is a tournament which you need to qualify for with usually all of the best teams from each region and a massive prize pool downsides usually bo1s until finals or upper finals but that also allows for upsets and interesting outcomes I just watch for the love of valorant and try not to throw my views into everyone's face daily like it matters.
IMO the more games the better whether it's b01s, single elim or whatever I watch valorant
I wouldn't ever value it on the same level as a VCT tournament until they make it bo3s and double elim but if you win it sure respect
it's the same with cs, i don't think a lot of people really give ewc a lot of weight
single elim groups are a big reason why and it especially doesn't help valorant that it's outside of the main circuit
