does ewc count when counting val championships?
I hate the thought of giving heretics a trophy but love the thought of FNC losing 3 grand finals in a row

nope
even heretics themselves didnt see it as a trophy
you can see it as fnatic losing a shit ton of bo5s tho
people bringing that up is so braindead, boaster at some point said "we lost our last 2 finals and want to win the next one", so does that mean boaster considers it a legit event?
Anyone that did shit at the event will say its a mickey mouse, all the teams that did good will say otherwise. Same goes for the fans
I was saying it's legit from before the event, and even while heretics was nearly losing to TEC.
I think it's worth less than a 12 team master because of the format but it's equivalent or better than 8 team kickoff
bo1 and single elimination playoffs
qualification in pacific also had bo1s so yeah the formst was pretty bad
only the starting 2 games were B01s , not even crazy when the elimination and qualifying games were Bo3.
And single elimination playoffs are the go to in every CS tourney too
it's being compared to other S tier valorant tournaments not to CS. and those tournaments don't have any bo1s or single elim (with the exception of lock in and kickoff qualification)
It's not a riot event ofc the format is gonna be different genius.
Prize pool was greater than masters and all the best teams were there that's all that matters.
Pretty sure there were more teams attending than any masters and bigger prize pool than any master. People still see it as a mickey mouse, but thats mostly fans of teams that did shit at the event
No, no one actually considers it because it was mickey mouse and not an actual riot put on event
Maybe in the futur if it become a replacement of a master but definitly not at the 14/02/26
I'd say if you count LOCK//IN then you should definitely count EWC. Both featured similar format, LOCK//IN just had more participants. But in the end, only the strong teams made the finals.
But lock in was riot affiliated and ewc was not. Lock in is 100% a championship while ewc is still debatable (imo)
ewc going from 2025-2028
4 big tournaments like this cant be ignored
I don't because the format is complete garbage. Were talking a about group bo1's into a single elim bo3( at least make it bo5's all the way). Lock in had the excuse of having over 40 teams to justify single elim. EWC doesn't at all, its hickey mouse format and its trash to make any conclusions from.
Single elimination makes the games high stakes. And the best team wins anyways so what's the problem?
We dont need single elimination for a game to have high stakes. This is acting like teams and people dont care about matches in the upper bracket purely because of a second chance. That and lower bracket runs are a thing and should be a thing.
Also with Riot esports in general unless your the LCK or LPL. Teams do not play alot of games compared to other sports or even esports. So double and Triple are good ways to increase the amount of games possible. The only dig agaisnt double elim is the lacking of a bracket reset, but frankly with Riot esports im willing to ignore it and suck it up.
Single elim is fine in cs2 for me because their are so many tournaments and games, double elim would causs issues of scheduling and actual player fatigue for the top teams because they play WAY more games then a person in Riot esports would.Riot only has a paltry 3 internationals in a whole year compared to CS. Their is no excuse to not have double elim for more games between top teams
The only reason certain sports like Football or American football, hockey, etc don't do double elim is because of player fatigue and injury, otherwise if that didnt exist they would do double elim because that means more money, for the franchise, teams, and sponsors. Single elim is only used as a compromise not as a way to maintain high stakes.
If we are counting in general they are at like 5 in a row, remember the 13-0 on Abyss they received by T1
It's an off-season tournament. A fun one to watch when you look past the tech pauses and shit production. Battle of 1 is why it's considered "mickey mouse" but then again, with how narrow the schedule is, what can they do lol
