Ik, it just pisses me off when people say Viper is a sentinel. She plays like a secondary controller which is what she is, a secondary controller. Those players play viper bc what else are they gonna play in a no senti comp?

Not discussing her strength as an agent, only whether she truly is a sentinel or not. She doesn’t provide any passive info like cypher, veto, kj, or chamber, and she doesn’t fully negate any map control like sage/deadlock do

When astra is played in double controller comps on abyss she is often played like a sentinel, so yeah for all intents and purposes it fulfills the sentinel role in those cases.

I mean the entire controller class can effectively divided into sentinel-esque controllers that have global utility enabling sentinel-like lurks and more offensively oriented controllers who’s kits make them suboptimal for anything other than playing with the pack. Omen blind and tp are not effective in the lurk role, harbor as well for the same utility reasons. Clove and brim are limited by smoke range.

However Astra and viper specifically have globally effective utility and reusable info denial that strongly favor both lurky playstyles and solo site anchoring.

Sentinel strength on defense and somewhat on offense is maintaining space, and viper does this effectively with her orb and wall on both sides. Astra less so, but compensates by being able to fake space creation with the star pullback smoke and being able to physically insert herself into space while still maintaining full utility effectiveness.

Other controllers lose utility value in this role.

So what, they’re saying cortez is emotional? If he couldn’t take criticism, then he wouldn’t have improved as much as he did. He’s probably going to be the best sentinel in Americas this year, but he gets kicked cuz he’s “emotional”
