We also live in a society where when women do the same horrible thing that a man does it's not held to the same light. If a women were to make weird remarks towards a man society would turn a blind eye but that's not the same for when a man makes a weird remark to a woman.

this isn't true
men definitely do it more but 90% is absurd
a lot of the crimes that women do towards men arent reported either out of fear being mocked

nonetheless that title is not it
you know i love you 1dih

doesnt justify the title or shame of men as a whole nonetheless, glad you agree with me there

Shaming men is definitely not the strategy - it's definitely frustrating when the go-to for a lot of feminists or activists is to generalise men even implicitly (such as when people say just "men need to do X, Y, Z" in response to some incident.) I can understand collective responsibility helps to make the world a safer place, but at the same time, blanketing all men with the minority committing the worst actions will only cause further division in the pursuit of helping minimise the amount of issues occurring.

keep denying, you chuds

its a fact that men commit more atrocities towards the opposite gender than the other way around

that does not excuse all men being looked down on for that (which 1dan1x isnt doing, btw - “not all men”)

if you feel like you arent a part of the harmful demographic, then good. however, the culture among men that is (even if jokingly) degrading towards women is what gives a lot of the offenders the feeling like they can do something like that

so what we can all do, as good men, is strive towards being respectful towards women at all times and not further normalize a culture of seeing women as less / mere pleasure for men. with your friends, your father, all men in your life.

it may feel like you are not responsible for these societal problems, but there is something you can do to make a difference! 💙

trying to make that a point inherently makes society view men as evil
i thought we were past using statistics, considering some of them would also be deemed highly racist

men do indeed to more crimes in general and towards women, thats just based off the circumstances that each gender has to live with

just dont turn it into a gender thing like #14 said, people are shitty call them out for being shitty
theres no reason to generalize

#29

I am saying: dont make degrading jokes about women, because such an attitude is what makes men creeps towards women
i dont think thats a controversial take at all

so, i am not generalizing all men at all, the opposite. although i am saying we have a shared responsibility, as men, to prevent as much as we can, because we can
also, “i thought we were past using statistics” might be the dumbest take i have ever heard lol - “they MIGHT be racist” is absurd when i was talking about male offenders without using any source

what i wrote is a currently very accepted Dutch movement, after the killing of a girl in the night. men came defending the offender, saying things like “she shouldnt have worn such a short skirt then”, and thats the kind of mindset we should all move away from

in the end, i think we are both on the same side, i’m just saying that we can collectively take action (which is, like i said, a very normal take in the Netherlands right now)

clearly you didnt understand my point whatsoever
its not about men, its about people. stop. generalizing. you ARE generalizing. you are NOT saying the opposite.

men dont have a shared responsibility to prevent harm towards women, we have a shared responsibility to prevent harms towards PEOPLE, same as women have a shared responsibility to prevent harm towards PEOPLE

also, “i thought we were past using statistics” might be the dumbest take i have ever heard lol - “they MIGHT be racist” is absurd when i was talking about male offenders without using any source

you saying "its a fact" implies that you believe this as something statistics would prove to be true, hence youre using statistics to back your claim when you wouldnt dream of using statistics for something related to races, point being youre using it in a sex-oriented debate.

i understand there are men that degrade women, that hurt women and do worse to women. that is a fact and i'm not disagreeing with you there
but making a point like the one you did, does nothing but villainize a whole ass gender
like, you do realize that women do plenty of horrible acts towards men too right? a lot of it is unreported, or not taken seriously. but you will NEVER see me generalize women on the planet for the acts of the bad ones.

your personal anecdote is believable as well, i have no doubt
but please take away the fact that generalizing is never the right move. people are bad.

thanks for parttaking in this conversation with me

i agree that PEOPLE are bad
but if you read my messages again, you'd see that i am not at all saying that all men are bad (in that sense, i am not generalizing)
sure, if you want to say that people have a shared responsibility to stop people from doing bad things, i completely agree
but it is not a coincidence that men commit more violations towards women than the other way around (that even includes whistling at women in the street). my professor recently showed me this video, just as an example https://youtu.be/b1XGPvbWn0A?si=CXWiK3cW5Phw1WCf
so i do think that the responsibility lies more with men, than with people in general. so, i can see why you'd say i am generalizing. however, when it is true that there are more male offenders than female offenders, isnt that just a fact? not an OVERgeneralization? some generalizations are true (although i dont believe i generalized if you read my points above again)
i am not trying to villainize a whole gender. i am trying to point out that not all men are like this, and calling on them to speak up when your friend makes a slightly misogynist joke, or talk about "bitches".

bit of a ramble there, but my point is that i am not generalizing, i am talking about a solution to a societal problem which involves all people (without saying all men are bad...)

you wouldnt dream of using statistics for something related to races, point being youre using it in a sex-oriented debate.

i feel like this is a different debate altogether, but i dont understand your point here... from my perspective you said this:

  1. statistics are redundant because they might be racist
  2. i used statistics in a conversation about sex (which doesnt involve race)
  3. that is a bad thing? this is where i lose you

#46

of course, i like debating with people. especially ones who are civilized

my point with saying youre generalizing was that, when you make a blanket statement that villainizes a whole gender, it does more harm than good. for example, when people initially read the creep's thread everyone was INSTANTLY on his ass. we all wanted him gone, because we agree that hes fucking weird.
but when you made this statement, the whole topic shifted from "dude some people are awful, they deserve to be permabanned" to people getting hurt over something that villainizes their gender. im assuming you didnt mean it that way, but thats what happens when you post something like that.

also yeah that video is pretty bad, i cringed the whole time watching it.
but that's the thing, to those men they probably don't even realize they're being creepy. they're probably so depraved that they think "yeah this is what i should do to get a girlfriend". which is why i think that this whole issue isn't related to gender. it's not on men or women exclusively. it's a societal issue. a lot of men are lonely because women are seen as the prize in the relationship. this kills their mental and shows us the likes of the absolute gem of a video you sent. truly horrific.

there are men that make misogynistic jokes, men that call women bitches as a synonym for the word women, etc.
just like how there are women that spew misandrist bs and treat men like shit.
that's what my point was, it's not an issue about gender, it's an issue about people.

okay as for the part you got confused with, what i meant was that:
you're using statistics in a debate about crimes about sexes
but you wouldnt use it in a debate about crime about races

basically: its somehow deemed okay to use statistics as a way to villainize men when it's not okay to do the same with races.
it should not be okay either way. statistics can be used to generalize a whole group of people when there are more innocent ones than guilty ones.

I remember when I used to have threads, some blue haired chick was making threads about predators but it's always targeting men. I said "what about the female preds" and she said I was deflecting. The feminist behavior is just pattern recognition atp....
