as a german that tried teaching my brazillian friend some german grammar and made them quit learning german with it because, in their words: "its to hard", is the german language to hard? i mean my brazillian friend speaks portugese which is something i look at and think: "no thank you", and i am struggling with german myself so i would say valid criticism

I have just started learning german and I am always surprised by common english words in german all the time. Grammar is the most difficult part of every language tbh.

true
but german grammar seems to have alot more layers than others (ignoring languages like: Japanese, Mandarin, Korean,...)

I've had a brief exposure to some German and French. German is indeed very difficult to learn; the case system, word types, and word order can be really confusing.

Declinations are an awful thing to learn and shouldn't be a thing in the big of 2025

Even my german friend thought german is too hard because of its grammar, i remember that a word can have 5 different spellings under different tenses or situations

Its definetely harder than portuguese and other western languages because of its grammar

As someone who learned "proper" German late (was in other countries for primary school years) the biggest issue I had was that its a language that doesnt want to be taught
The insistence on Latin terminology on top of an already outdated language results in an unnecessarily steep learning curve
(Being in Germany where the expectation is that you do just understand that stuff obviously didnt help either)

Once you get past the initial hurdle, I dont think theres anything that makes German noticeably harder than other languages.

But yea I think its way more of an artificial difficulty by the people teaching, rather than the language itself (though i wouldnt group it with the "easy" languages either)

I know multiple languages, german being one of em and i can say its difficulty is highly overexaggerated.

The con is a lot of grammar rules. The pro is its formulaic nature. Every syllable is pronounced consistently across different words very much unlike English.

Is the the easiest language? Probably not. Is it this crazy hard thing? Absolutely not.

German language has the the unique trait of having lego words meaning you can technically stick multiple words together and creat a perfectly valid big word. A lot of non-speakers just take these big words and create a spooky oooh german is so hard!! Look at this big word! belief in themselves which is nonsense of course.

as a german, my main struggles with the language are the grammar rules
Also, not every syllable is pronounced consistently. example: "ch"
"La-chen" has a soft growl in the middle due to the "ch" while "lei-chen" is more of a soft hiss

Well isnt that the case for like every language out there? At least German is somewhat related to languages like English so in theory it should be easier for someone who knows English or similar language. Same when I learned Swedish in school you could just guess stuff because of how similar some of it is to English. Compare that to for example germanic speaker learning Finnish that's completely different language. German is likely pretty hard, but not crazy hard compared to some languages.

thats true, all points you made
an englisch speaker will have an easier time then an finnish speaker, they will still struggle though
and im not denying that, i mean i as a german, am struggling with german
