Why hasn’t any tournament tried agent drafting again? No bans, just serpentine picking. Riot should organize Tier 2 or Tier 3 events like this as a trial.

and picking a character locks the other team from picking them? bc that sounds so stupid. need like double the cast for that to be viable
That is the purpose of it. Draft so we have have varying comps so a picked agent should be locked for the other team.
That won't work in valorant. Each agent has a very unique role in a comp in valorant, unlike league where multiple champions in the same lane can be meta at the same time. This would reduce the quality of the game because teams would worry more about varied team comps that can just get fucked over by a coin flip or a team that is trying to mess with your team comp, and less about mastering a certain comp or training with fixed agents. It doesn't make sense for valorant yet. Maybe it could be considered once valorant has over 50 agents but definitely not yet. There is no value in forcing teams to play completely varied comps because it results in unfair advantages and makes it easier to troll the game for your opponent with your picks.
everyone will just ban the opponent's duelist pick becauise usually the team is built around said duelist except small minorities like g2
Serpentine picking is when two teams take turns choosing characters in a “snake-like” order. One team picks once, then the other team picks twice, then back to the first team picking twice, and so on. This way, both teams get a fair chance to pick good characters.
so does that mean team A picks omen team B is now NOT allowed to pick omen and picks something like astra or brim
correct, but they are not forced to pick controller immediately. they can pick the best initiator, sentinel or duelist for that map and take it away from the opponent.
Let me give you an example of what might happen, as well as the issues it may pose:
Team 1 picks Icebox
Team 2 picks Breeze
Corrode is the decider
Team 1 picks Viper
Team 2 leaves the building in protest
viper is not the only meta defining agent in icebox. you pick viper and the enemy will pick sova and killjoy on their turn.
so everyone plays half of a meta comp, but they won't know which half until the game starts, and then they have to play at an underprepared level with the scraps they have left to choose from
sounds like a bad viewing experience and poor competitive integrity
It would kind of be terrible since there are objectively better agents and Valorant doesnt have that many agents
This sounds like a terrible idea, there's some maps where you MUST play an agent and that's that. We need way more agents for this to work. Like, icebox/kj are pretty much necessary on icebox (no harbor does not work what are u on his wall is way worse than viper's).
