I know I don't watch a lot of anime, but every time I look for a romance anime to watch with friends it's always "looser x winner", wish is kinda boring and DESTROY my Suspension of disbelief very very fast. (And doesn't learn to see the beauty into the outsider and the nobody)

horimiya starts off like that but becomes peak afterwards, THE greatest romance anime ever
lovely complex isn't anything mind blowing in terms of plot and story but it definitely doesn't fall into a lot of the edgy loser, ecchi, or harem tropes that plague modern shows
u can also check out the fragrant flower blooms with dignity, it's airing right now
there isnt a love polygon in this anime at all, there r episodes where they play with different potential love interests but none of them really get in the way of the main characters

I really liked this one probably in my top 5, it's way more smart than it seems, and have a good philosophical idea about "What if fake delusion and imagination could make our life better"

the mc aint really a loser tbh but its a nice chill anime just has 12 eps its a good one nighter and funny although the 1st season they arent too deep in the romantic part

Arent a lot of this harems ? (This is also a huge turn off, since you cant really do a good romance if you focuses on more than one lips at time)

masamune kun is sort of haremy but he’s only ever romantically with one girl at a time

this is a movie and the only anime thing ive ever watched but "Your Name" was cool. They're on kinda equal footing bc they understand the lives of each other even though they live completely different lives.
It's a feel-good high school romance anime. It's one of the best romance anime you'll watch. After every episode you'll just feel so good and so happy. I will definitely recommend that anime.
Outcast x outcast? First that comes to mind is Aharen-san
Hyouka(more mystery than romance tho) and My Love Story were also real fun watches
