Questions for those in college / have graduated

Hi everyone, I'm an upcoming freshman in college (specifically the university of pittsburgh). I am on a pre-dental track, and eventually want to become an OMFS (oral and maxillofacial surgeon). I am planning on majoring in chemistry as well. Would you guys recommend me taking 18 credits per semester AND also taking summer courses as well to graduate early? I plan on using my entire senior year/gap year to intern/shadow and do extracurriculars. I have a really strong family-friend connection to an OMFS clinic that I plan to shadow at, so that isn't an issue either. I've also been working as a dental assistant for the past 2 years and 3 months.

Here is what an overview of what my credits would look like
Freshman Year:

  • Fall: 18 Credits
  • Spring: 18 Credits
  • Summer: Ideally 12 Credits
    (48 Credits)

Sophomore Year:

  • Fall: 18 Credits
  • Spring: 14 Credits (lighter credits to prepare for the DAT)
  • Summer: 4 credits (once again, lighter for the DAT)
    (36 Credits)

summer going into junior year, I hope to take the DAT

Junior Year (Hopefully my last year):

  • Fall: 18 Credits
  • Spring: 18 Credits
    (36 Credits)

TOTAL CREDITS: (120)
Depending on what courses are available in the summer/regular school credits per semester may vary, but in the end, it will still total to 120 credits.
Pitt requires a total of 120 credits, and my outline suffices.

I know that this means I will have an intense workload, and may have no social life, but I am willing to put in the work.

What do you guys think? Is this realistically doable? What are some pros and cons in your guys' opinions?

Is there a specific reason why you want to graduate early?

Depends on how hard the classes you are taking and how well you want to do in them. Unless you are a genius taking this many classes in such a short time means that you are sacrificing top grades-if you dont particularly care about high honors/gpa then go for it-bare in mind you will have to have no social life and keep uses of social media, video games, tv etc to a miniumum

i mean it’s pretty doable.

i was taking 18 credits per semester(as required) minimum to get my doctorate and working on top of it. so essentially busy 7 days a week.

time management is your friend. don’t forget to have a good work/schook/life balance. make friends with your peers and study together, don’t procrastinate, sleep well.

You'll have the rest of your life to work, I wouldn't make your college life hell just to get to your 9-5 faster. Too each their own though, some prefer that.

while havng 18 per semester is a fast track, i do recommend finding ECs to fit in there alongside some sort of experience gaining opportunity.
which prolly means you won't have time to do the 18 credits imo (i usually baseline around 16 credits then try to find other career stuff to add on top in my free time)

A lot of schools limit how many science courses you can take over the summer. Ik for med school admissions, taking more than 2 essential sciences over the summer is a red flag, plan accordingly. Looks good otherwise, don't be afraid to take a gap year if need be. It is extremely easy to burnout, college is a diff breed than high school.

And make sure to go to Panthers' football and basketball games!

I’ve always taken 17-19 credit hours each semester and it’s been fine

Just hold yourself accountable and don’t let due dates stack up. The last 2 weeks of a semester where you have to cram all the class projects you’ve been procrastinating is brutall
