And give the spot to Barcelona FC
It depends on who you sign and for what reason the players that do really badly jumping from tier 2 to 1 tend to be very heavy statpadders idk too much about filu in t2 but from watching Soulcas on apeks he really doesn't seem ready for a team outside of apeks like I think he would have done better there than on koi because I don't think he's ready to jump into a new tier 1 team like that I feel like we can both nitpick tier 2 players that have dealt with this issue and either succeed or failed
I mean soulcas did win Ascension, it wasn't just stats. I do not think Olizera would be better, I have a soft spot for Guardy but I'm not sure he is objectively better either.
My moves would honestly be Monster IGL in place of flyuh, and just fucking pray. (At least for next split if Monster has finished school)
Maybe ZachKappa in place of Filu or Guardy for soulcas, but idk
But either way, 2 of those changes at most at a time
That's because they are on a smaller stage. Many valorant fans probably don't even know it exists.
But think about it this way, if you're a neutral fan from APAC, Americas or even EMEA and you tune in on an EMEA game and you see Barça, you're likely a 1000 times more invested on what happens than if your see 80% of any other current EMEA org. Either to support or to hate, free narrative and engagement
Sure, they wouldn't have a solid fanbase to go to the arena and shit because they lack the esport tradition. But it would def attract more viewers than GX or Apeks or many many other orgs
People have said this about other football club esports projects before. Never do they really have any significant carryover from sports fanbase to comp video game fans.
It just never worked and it wont start now imo. Its something that sounds good in theory only.
More than Giants? Sure. But orgs like Gentlemates, KC, Koi, BBL, Joblife, Mandatory, Otakar type orgs will actually have a base and grow it with success. Influencers are the key.
It has not been done, not at all tier 1 level like this and not by an organization by Barça. I don’t think people truly realize the difference between a top team like a Liverpool or a Bayern and an actual global rucking movement like Barça. The only sport team with similar pull is Madrid. Any other team is just not the same
This being said, I think we don’t agree. But I’m gonna try to make my point a little more clear.
1 I’m not saying football fans will start watching Valorant because Barça has a team. That’s just not realistic
2 I’m not saying they would have a bigger fanbase than Gentlemates, BBL or KOI. I’m saying the average Gentlemates and BBL fan would rather watch Barça than KOI. I’m saying the average BBL and KOI fan would rather watch Barça than Gentlemates. And the average Valorant fan would rather watch Barça than 90% of other Valorant teams that they’re not a fan of
They wouldn’t have a 100k viewer stream like Kameto, but people in general would care more, bigger engagement overall. Specially if they were somewhat decent
Once again. I understand the argument. I have heard it before. I have made it myself before. However after following various esports for 10 years never have i seen it manifest in reality. And there were many tries.
Why do Fener and Gala not pull more viewers in turkish league? Why did Schalke hardly pull german viewers in LEC which is in north germany? Why did PSG fail in league? Why did Barca never draw additional viewers in league or Valorant.
Do fanbases grow jumping from T2 to T1? Sure. But there already has to be a base level at the start. If you have nothing there isnt suddenly gonna be a big jump from nothing to something.
I just dont believe in it. If i were riot i would look into otakar. They seem to have huge potential for a big Spanish fanbase that actually watches valorant.
I would add Otakar if they can build the structures and financing and kick Giants. You dont need more than 3 Spanish orgs. Maybe 2 is already enough. Need a german one too.
I don't think those scenarios or teams are big enough to compare in this situation, I just think Barsa is big enough to make a difference. And I'm also not necessarily talking about numbers since it's not a 1 stream thing, it's a general thing, the bigger the stage the bigger the effect
And yes Otakar would pull more viewers than GX and TH for sure. But Otakar doesn't have that kind of structure just yet and I don't think that's what Mixwell is trying to do in the short term. It would also have to be a full spanish roster
