Title. Give the reason, also.
(The info below is during reykjavick and 3 months before the event).
Yay was on sandbox and would diff sentinels everytime he played them.
Loud wasn't even a thing then unless u count vikings but you can't really compare them since they only played 1 game.
Sentinels would often to lose to 100t so not sure what ur on about with that one.
Sentinels had close games with c9 even tho c9 was a very mid team.
FNC was always so close when they played sentinels and lost by 2 rounds every time.
FNC and 100t could definitely touch them and this is displayed after the event as envy, xset, g2, liquid and kru would beat them a few months after their spectacular run and then lose to super mid and bad teams after.
Its hard to say but sentinels run was definitely a fluke run as they have had nowhere close to the success that they found in early 2021. The reason for this is simply that teams got better and understood more how the game works whereas sentinels did not improve and stayed in their 2021 Reykjavik form.
okay let’s not rewrite history
tenz was diffing everyone including yay and derke.
yays team went 0-3 against sentinels. they couldn’t get out of challengers . same with 100t and c9 where they got eliminated and couldn’t even qualify for the main event. fnc literally went 0-3 against sentinels too.
v1 with the likes of vanity and zellsis was also part of that masters, and team liquid and kru.. vikings with saadhak and sacy.
let’s not make it seem like sentinels run was super easy when there were definitely competition.
tenz did play very well when he first joined sentinels and in Reykjavik but thats irrelevant as we are talking about fluke runs and not how good a player was in the fluke run.
yays team did not go 0-3 but instead went 1-1 against sen and after Reykjavik he went 2-0 against sen.
doesn't matter that 100t and c9 didnt qualify for the event as your said they didnt even come close when my point is that they had close games with sen and 100t would beat them regularly.
v1 is irrevlavant and has nothing to do with this so im not sure why you are bringing them up but sure.
You were the one that said no team could even come close to beating sen and now you're saying that their run was not super easy and there was def competition and that I was the one making it seem like their run was super easy?
If victor didn’t have covid, there was a chance they could even go out in groups since envy undoubtedly would have done at least somewhat better and x10 was playing surprisingly well. Their first match in playoffs was team secret. Come on. The other half of bracket was much more stacked with gambit, kru and fnatic. A lot of things went really really well for them to get the win that they did. Also, single elimination brackets are always yikes.
Zeta Cinderella was a bit of a fluke; they lost to North legit right after finishing 3rd in icelands. Not to mention, the only reason they reached playoffs because they faced NIP and a weakened fnatic, then even in playoffs they faced a hopeless Team Shitquid even with L1nk, G2 (another shit eu team), a not yet developed PRX, and DRX (they became braindead after their match with Optic).
Has to be ZETA.
They've never been the same since that miracle 3rd place finish at Reykjavik. Moreover there were so many asterisks when it came to the legitimacy of their run, like FPX not attending, FNC playing without arguably their best player, a rookie NiP team...
If ZETA really were a good team they'd at least get like 7-8th or 5th-6th in whatever international LANs they played in after Reykjavik.
Lot of people saying zeta, but I think that was a rare moment of them actually finding form
As much as I hate to say it, Acend were literally Cned and friends. By far the biggest fluke, considering they fell off a cliff 3 months later.
Edit: honourable mention would be leviatan champs 2022, if that can even be considered a run. They looked like Optic for two games and then choked
bc potter the god coach taught them how to play well together and brought them all onto the same page so the players can understand how their fellow teammates play. They were also a very innovative team and they would try crazy things like 3 duelists and all this stuff until something finally clicked which was their pre round planning and they figured out how to effectively anti strat and the way they anti strated through their combination plays and their util is amazing. They were always decent players individually but never world champion level good but the 10 man roster definitely helped.
Acend had the whole VK incident, then they beat a very weak Envy that was dealing with some of the players catching COVID, then they won against an average at best team secret and a TL that had beat Acend a month back and as bonecold himself said just repeated the same strats all over again so they were easy to read
And at last we have gambit that also had to deal with Covid related issues and came in to the tournament in a bad form
