Stage 2 started out with a competitive match between Leviatán and FURIA. The reigning Masters winners came out in form on map one, easily trouncing their opponents. However, FURIA proved they were still a team to be reckoned with in map two, as they utterly shut out Leviatán 13-1. On the side of FURIA, basic was finally able to make his first on stage appearance after a year of visa troubles kept him from competing. He did not disappoint in his debut, posting an astounding 2.08 rating on the second map. FURIA would not be able to close out Split though, as the reigning champs held strong.
Leviatán have not skipped a beat since Masters London. One of the most anticipated teams coming into Stage 2 was 100 Thieves. Hot off their international win at EWC, they look a whole new team in their VCT return. With an identity and confidence solidified, they were able to take down G2, a team that's been a demon for them over the past two years. G2, on the other hand, are on a downturn. Despite winning Americas in Stage 1, they've been left reeling from their astonishing 0-2 exit at Masters London.
100 Thieves took G2 by storm with their newfound confidence.Another hyped up match was that between MIBR and NRG. The touted superteam with aspas at its forefront had not lived up to their expectations, missing out on both Masters of the year. A strong performance in Stage 2 would be needed to get themselves to Champions. Things were looking good for them against NRG, taking map one, and dominating the first half of map two, leading 10-2 at the half. However, what followed was an inexplicable crumble, and the reigning world champions clawed their way back to win the map 13-11, and then completely stomp MIBR on map three.
A back breaking clutch out of mada seals MIBR's fate.As for the other games, Sentinels managed to clutch a win over Cloud9 despite being without their IGL johnqt . A much matured Marved stepped in to help bring his old team the win. EG and ENVY both had two new pickups coming into Stage 2, but it was EG that took a convincing 2-0 win, an improvement over their winless Stage 1. Lastly, LOUD's retooled roster helped them take down KRÜ in a close 2-1 win that saw KRÜ continue their loss streak after bombing out of the Stage 1 playoffs.
Sentinels' rising star puts on a show.Next week's matches will continue as follows:
