I have heard their coach or manager is ass tho. And they seem to underperform against weaker teams or teams they are favorite to win against. The world cup 2022 run was fun to watch tho.

From what I know they have the best asian football roster but they tend to not perform up to their standards. I have seen lot of Japan's football fans call out their coach and he is still in the team. So ig it's management issue or something like that. Bro is not jinpachi ego.
They choke easily, some say that it's because they're coming in with this underdog mentality. Which is why they will somehow win against top teams and when no one expect them to but lose when stakes are high.
They have incredible scouting system, players are spotted early on for their talents and the training regiment are suited to their individual strengths. It also helps that the national association itself have sustainable long term planning .
That's how I was told and I believe them.

I genuinely think every single team has what it takes to at least make it out of their group. No idea who'll win. Probably one of Spain, Morocco, or Argentina... or maybe even Norway, considering how good they looked in qualifying.
I honestly don't care about who wins it, though. It was so fun watching every single team make the dream and qualify. I loved watching nations like Curaçao, DR Congo, Iraq, Haiti, Jordan, Cabo Verde, Uzbekistan, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, etc. beat all the odds and make it here (or nearly make it) and I can't wait to see more of them <3
