i hate underdog stories
wolves in toronto
t1 in bangkok
edg in champs 24
and so on

its cool to see an upset every now and then, but overall i prefer seeing real domination
when a team is winning often it makes seeing them lose all the more exciting

fnc 2023 was atleast fun to watch

thats what i mean though
fnc winning so much made it way more shocking and satisfying/crushing when they got eliminated at champs
and the winner of the 2nd best champs ever wasnt an underdog either bc eg got 2nd at tokyo

the best champs being 22 when both grand finalists had already been to a grand final

EG was literally an underdog in Tokyo and you didn't even mention them lmao, bias at its finest.

of course i want them to win more, but my point is that dominating your opponents 26-0 every single match is just boring

underdog story is more memorable and cause no one expect that to happen like in league of legends 2022 DRX run from play-ins to beating best teams in the world to win worlds trophy

underdog stories come about because there has been "real dominance"

#18

Frags

not true
wolves got top 3 at toronto beating 2 garbage teams and geng who forgot how to play ever since that day
what made wolves an underdog was they were the lowest seeded team coming from a region that never has any expectations

rrq is NOT a garbage team

what are you even talking about
you claimed underdogs come from others dominance
i disagreed with you saying that underdogs can play against other bad teams and place higher than they deserve

#32

uh huh, so wolves got dominated in a region that gets dominated facing a team that dominated the groupstage and thats not the reason they were the underdogs?

Are we ragebaiting or-?

Trust me, you dont

The Astralis era in CS was one of the most boring times in the history of esports

#21

we haven't even seen real domination yet. when we do tho, i guarantee it will a shitty era. parity is what keeps the game interesting.

Good team but not even close to what im talking about. I mean like a real dynasty like astralis

that is as close to a dynasty as you'll get in this game

yes but 1st event was lockin so we dont even know what teams were like so it was hard to know how good were they and only 1 stage for regional and for champs it was LCQ so we did not see them play that many matched in that year compair to now

tf is that supposed to mean? 'we dont know what teams were like'

#44

like it was single elemination tournament and there are some team who were heavy on anti strat so who knows if it was double elmination maybe result would be diffrent like navi vs fnc game

no one expected wolves to get anywhere near the toronto trophy, so it was exciting to see them win match after match, getting farther than even they thought they could get.
like seeing them 2-0 geng when a lot of people thought geng were the favorites for the whole event was completely astonishing and entertaining

i think what u actually are complaining about is not underdog runs, but underdog runs that the team can't back up afterward, like how sen and t1 became the best team in the world for a few days, then couldn't even get to the top 6 in their region, or how teams like wolves get really far into internationals then never look that good again.
Like with EG's run (which is one of the best runs in vct oat) they surprised everyone at tokyo by making the grand finals, then backed up that performance at champs and won the whole thing. it was still an underdog run when looking at the whole picture, but it didnt feel like a meaningless, one-off anomaly that other underdog runs in this game have been

tldr - its not underdog runs that are disappointing, its underdog runs that fall off afterward

W and i agree w/ this

agreed as well, i hated the wolves story because they made it to the final weekend and then fell off, made 2 of the final 4 matches somewhat boring. but i loved the prx story ever since being 0-3 in stage 1, since they brought exciting matches and are still good

lowkey I agree with you but I don't think you worded it correctly

part of what makes underdog runs exciting is that they're unexpected, but if we get an underdog run every single tournament then we come to expect them and it no longer becomes as exciting

sometimes we need the favorites to just win all their games so that way when they do lose it's way more interesting
(unless it's against the team i'm cheering for, in which case tough luck but you gotta lose)

a mid/trash team figuring it out mid tourney is exciting to watch in the moment, yet frustrating to root for after cause nearly all of them either fall off or the org cant afford them and thus split up.

#35

just root for a team that hasn't won yet (TL)
