no one expected wolves to get anywhere near the toronto trophy, so it was exciting to see them win match after match, getting farther than even they thought they could get.
like seeing them 2-0 geng when a lot of people thought geng were the favorites for the whole event was completely astonishing and entertaining
i think what u actually are complaining about is not underdog runs, but underdog runs that the team can't back up afterward, like how sen and t1 became the best team in the world for a few days, then couldn't even get to the top 6 in their region, or how teams like wolves get really far into internationals then never look that good again.
Like with EG's run (which is one of the best runs in vct oat) they surprised everyone at tokyo by making the grand finals, then backed up that performance at champs and won the whole thing. it was still an underdog run when looking at the whole picture, but it didnt feel like a meaningless, one-off anomaly that other underdog runs in this game have been
tldr - its not underdog runs that are disappointing, its underdog runs that fall off afterward
