Genuine question here, what makes people rate aspas so high? Why'd he get the mvp from champs 2022? (at least, he's listed as such on liquipedia)

While I'm definitely not here to debate that aspas is shit or something, I feel like people rate him #1 or the goat of valorant so consistently, while I just can't comprehend that. The trophy he won, champs 2022, he was not worthy of the mvp. I might misremember this, but I felt like Pancada played the best, or you could argue Less or Sacy. I don't even think Aspas is in the discussion for best player of champs 2022. You might argue Aspas for the best player on Loud for Reykjavik, him or sacy at least. For 2023 Lock/in you could argue him or Less, I guess you could argue aspas best player on loud for tokyo, but they did bomb out 0-2 and he didn't perform good... And for champs 2023 he played his best games, when Loud lost - I don't think he's undisputed the best player on his team or in the world for all of 2022-2023. I think he was the best player for Lev at shanghai, but they didn't make it out of swiss... In champs 2024 it's a bit more difficult, I think he was their best player. Him or Kingg.

Not to say he's not top 10 oat, or a bad player or whatever - Like the eye test is easy enough. The dude frags, it's like he's got magnetic bullets sometimes, but not always. And his consistency on other agents has always been a bit rough, not to mention his toronto performance (which I don't think should weigh very heavily). But what makes people rate him so high?

He wasn’t as impressive at champs, but he still had impact. He was louds best player at their first lan at Reykjavik, so the impression of him being their carry kinda stuck. I always thought his 2022 was overrated. In 2023 tho, he performed great at lock-in, and was Americas league mvp and played fantastic at champs, though less was about as good, definitely a top 5 player for the year. 2024 is interesting, because internationally his Shanghai was mid and his champs as a whole was great wasn’t as good as some other. However, his stats for the year cleared everyone by a large number. It’s kinda hard to rank him for 2024.

He put up world class numbers in every meta, every year so far. One dogshit tournament shouldn’t change the fact that he’s not a top 10 oat.

Also he’s incredibly consistent, rarely has a mega stinker (like Toronto)

i think people rate aspas so highly because he was good after he left loud (3rd champs with lev) and loud fell off hard, so it seemed like he was the key to loud's success, even though the truth is there were a ton of different factors

its gotta be a bunch of sentinels fans who watched him farm their team after coming off a win and they started peddling this narrative because it didnt exist before then everybody thought less was the best from loud. he is very clearly good but how is the best ever have 1 trophy in which he was the least important player and his most impressive thing outside of that is farming regionally on jett. make it make sense.

What you just said, described exactly why aspas is rated so high, not just amongst us the community, but also professional players. It's the first guy that comes to mind when you ask "who's the goat of Valorant".
His seasons on loud he was the most consistent. In champs 2022 he wasn't the best in terms of fragging, but the job of a duelist (in his case), isn't to necessarily frag, it's to create space for your team to play freely, and he does that naturally while also being an aiming monster. Why did he get his mvp? Not sure tbh.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Not only after that did he consistently played like the best guy on team and the best player in the world, his move to LEV made everyone question his career choices and he STILL brought them to champs in 3rd place by practically himself. And now in MIBR, he is doing the same exact thing with them.
He might not be number 1 for some people, but he's definitely top 5 player in terms of gameplay.

With all this said, some people have bias, some don't, some people hate Aspas, some love him, but as I said in the beginning, think about who's the best player of all time and he pops up in your head 9 times outta 10. So, at the very least, he is in the discussion for that category.

Aspas has been slightly overrated this year in my opinion. Even putting aside his rotten tournament, he didn't adapt to the Yoru meta and that's a bit disappointing. I'm not sure if you could rate him as a top 5 duelist itw at this very moment. But if we're looking at his career overall, he's not overrated.
