can we decide now? the prize pool is insane and im sure every org wants to win it... so can we decide now whether its a major to avoid conflict once NA wins it
Politics and controversy aside, I don't see why this tournament would be mickey mouse...
All regions went through qualifiers, best 4 teams that deserved to make it are there and the prize pool is better than masters.
I am kind of excited to watch and if the production is good there is good potential.
no, certainly not this year at least with how its been crammed in (some teams aren't participating, some teams aren't playing with full rosters, some teams are just treating the games as trials)
the formats are different between regions, and the group stage of the main event will likely have bo1's
i think the blast premier comparison does make more sense
why are people calling this an off-season event, it is literally taking place in the middle of the season
in terms of format i would consider it similar to kickoff/masters 1 because the format for apac/cn looks like shit but the event itself hosts 16 teams, all of which are tier 1 teams that can maybe contend for an riot sanctioned title
i don’t think ewc is mickey mouse, it should have a prestige similar to bangkok
this tournament absolutely feels like an off season event with the only difference being a massive prize pool. the lack of production value and lead up makes the event feel so, for the lack of a better word - uneventful.
nrg players aren’t out here flaunting their sen city classic 2024 win, and i highly doubt people will say “they won ewc” in the same way people say “they won masters”
well the difference between sen city classic and ewc is that sen city had 3 teams from one region whereas ewc has 16 teams across 4 regions playing on an international stage
and again this all falls towards who hosts the event, just because production isn’t incredible doesn’t mean the level of competition/quality of play is gonna go down just because it isn’t a riot sanctioned event
the quality/quantity of teams alone should be enough to classify this as an s-tier/tier one event, regardless of if it’s hosted by riot or someone else
They didn’t though the format is awful, the qualifying format is awful. Half the teams aren’t trying or fielding weak rosters. The only reason this is even a debate is because it was crammed in July and not November and the money. That and a lot of people are calling it Islamophobic when you disagree which is just stupid
