NA tier 2 stage 1 and stage 2 both have a smaller prize pool than NA GC stage 1???? Actually a joke how riot treats T2.
I love GC and everything it stands for, but Riot needs to invest more money in tier 2. You can't say it's not profitable for valorant to invest in tier 2 and then push outrageous money in GC. It just doesn't make sense. They keep making these odd decisions towards Tier 2 which make me really mad including the SEA Soop deal. They don't even promote GC properly which is odd too since if you are investing that amount of money, atleast advertise it properly.
Yeah it’s kind of crazy how riot also uses the main Americas account to stream GC yet no one watches it but won’t stream the tier 2 games on it, it’s just crazy bias towards GC and just neglecting their tier 2 scene even more. Btw them streaming on the main channel doesn’t even help with the viewership much either they get 4k viewers which is what tier 2 on their own channel gets lmao.
on a match to match basis im sure its equal. but the GF alone in GC brought in more viewership at peak than 3 regions T2 GFs last year combined. china im not sure whats going on there. From a talent perspective yeah it probably doesnt make sense why they get more prizepool as top GC teams are only just into T2 barely but you gotta think of GC as a separate tournament as its only recently (afaik) theyve introduced GC coming into T2 directly, i.e the winner getting a chance to play in the playoffs or whatever it was? their tournaments are rated as S tier when looking on liquipedia. it runs along side VCT atleast for now
Well you also gotta consider the fact that tier 2 production was so incredibly ass and the promotion for it wasn't as much as they do for GC, I'm pretty sure that like 2 regions had hella long tech pauses just because the production was so bad especially in Americas. Also GC got hella inflated by people who want to get the drops from the GF, most people only watched for a bit just so they could get the items and didn't even care for the games.
Also GC champs shouldn't really even be an S rated tournament since it's something riot is supposedly trying to use it to "help" people get into tier 2 and tier 1 but all it's doing is just creating a space where they have no point of leaving.
and you also have to consider there's a decent amount of women and marginalised groups that will just want to solely watch GC also. the same as any other sport, supporting role models. i don't doubt that tech pauses causes a drop for T2 but peak viewer ship for all of them was around the last couple rounds as theyre winning. all days leading up the GF they had higher viewership than most of the GFs too. and its a very big sweeping statement with no proof to say ppl only watched for the drops lol. GC champs shouldnt be a S tier tournament? but its global that you have to qualify for. ascension is regional lmao. i get the frustration but blaming GC for it is weird. ppl just dont care for T2 and its very apparent bcos ppl would be watching it, they know it exists but ppl just arent interested. they wanna watch their fave pros play. plenty of ppl stream it, big names too so it just sounds like cope really
I've been watching GC for about 3 years at this point and T2, especially NA T2 for 2 years now. It isn't difficult to balance. Riot should do a better job at incentivizing people to reach for the stars, I feel like "settling" for a certain tier of play is the worst way to decay as a player, GC or non-GC.
GC just has not consistently been appearing in T2 for the sole reason they're not good enough as a collective, individuals are but the league itself is at least a tier below. Even if they want to be in T2, they are not there yet. I will be honest when I say this I am surprised that we got a whole GC team in T2 as early as we did LOL.
GC also has an issue with having way less people to choose from, so you can have way less prodigies in comparison to regular play and can't form superteams (G2 Gozen fell off). For GC prodigies we should be keeping an eye out for Turkey, as they tend to have some really good players in VCL, VCT and GC. Maybe one day we have 5 Turkish girls in VCL.
yeah 100%. but when its a stabler job do you blame them for not wanting to take a risk? not at all. plus you have to consider the whole scene around GC that also incentivising them to stay. like attending the events are people going to be toxic and cause harm. theres alot of factors in that. i mean taking an extreme example of that french league match where there was alot of violence. that MAY occur when it comes to other pros, especially when politics is involved eg trans, nb and just women in general. its not their fault its the system, which why it would seem dumb to take away from GC and criticize GC which alot of ppl are doing. im sure its far more difficult to balance than any of us will know bcos chucking money at the scene isnt just gonna help theres far more to it. and prizepools arent just based off viewership per say its what sponsors they also have. but yeah id love nothing more for both to be at a better level and its a pisstake theyre still not taking T2 seriously as much as they should.
