Champions Points Rework

Seeing the controversy around Vitality qualifying to Champions, there should definitely be something changed when it comes to qualifying through points.

I feel like the system of getting points makes sense, but I feel that gaining those points should give you more chances to qualify then making you qualify.
For instance, when the Grand finals for a region is locked (#1-#2), there should be a double elimination system that means qualification for Champions
for the Top 2 Points Earners and the teams who places #3 and #4 that means qualification for Champions.

While this is not perfect, it will help controversy on having the best representation in the region make champions, while also making everything earlier on in the year still matter in the idea of making champions.

So a LCQ?

Pretty much, it helps prevent teams that were good earlier on in the year from being handed Champions if they bomb out Stage 2 later in the year, preventing them from likely bombing out of Champions and wasting their spot.

Why they are a controversy about a team our best team during all the year (top 4 master) being qualified for the biggest event of the year for just 2 bad playoffs games ?

Because regions should always send their best teams, regardless of the past. While they should get rewarded for playing well earlier on in the year, if a teams form is considerably worse later in the year they should not be handed the slot when another team is in better form. They should be rewarded for the earlier performances by getting more chances than other teams would, It is fair enough and makes sure a region sends their best teams.

I don't feel like there should be a debate here. But i am happy too.

For you VIT is not a "best" team since they perform worse in playoffs. But then you see, you calling them bad at this particular "instance" is where you are being biased. You would never have written this post mid season. Why shouldn't a team be rewarded for being "consistent" year long ?????

I am not saying that they should not be rewarded, I specifically say they should and deserve a reward. But for the sake of competition, they should not be handed the spot when there are other teams that are in better form and have beaten them. They should be given two more chances to reclaim their form, and if they cannot qualify with two extra matches then everyone else, why would that region want them to represent them for Champions?

they should not be handed the spot when there are other teams that are in better form and have beaten them.

so teams in "better form" should go to champs rather than those who were "better" all year ???

Yes, how is there a debate.

So you want to watch a champs where team like "NS" to win it all ?? who were in "better form" at the moment ??? We all know how "fun" watching that event was.

NS now are a much better team now and that's another story.

They were the best team in that meta, so yes we should have them. We should only ever have the best representation making these events.
I would not have wanted Stage 1 NS to make London just because they were gods in a meta that was no longer working.

Think the rationale is that teams in earlier stages/kickoff have already been rewarded for going to the international that the regional event qualifies them to, so it makes less sense for them to be rewarded again at the end of the year.

Ok, I get your point specifically. But then your argument/ reasoning isn't taking in consideration that they reached to playoffs by playing "better" in group stage before losing to teams in "better form"

MIBR wasn't a "best team" in the region last year and still managed to get a top 5 despite being grouped on americas and qualifying on points. If they weren't there it would probably be Cloud9. Face it, this is the best system we have

#23

It wouldn't guarantee Cloud9 a spot. It would just have MIBR and C9 face each other for the spot, and whichever team wins would be better representation for the region.

#24
foythvlr

it wouldn't because C9 had a better momentum at the time and it gave MIBR the opportunity and time to reset. C9 would 100% win the game and would 100% bomb out on champions group stage. it wouldn't be better representation at all

Not all teams can have a miracle run like MIBR and we cannot say whether or not a team would or would have not bombed out. You brought up a single occasion where a single team went on a miracle run which is great for them, but it is an isolated incident.

#28

It wasn't a miracle run, MIBR was a top 3 team of americas during 2/3rds of the year, one bad split shouldn't change that

Happened with Sen in 24 as well (qualified through points, top 4 in champs)

#31

And it would not have changed that. They would have had the chance to prove their form, which I would imagine they would have beaten C9 considering. Its not that they are not getting rewarded or are being punished for a bad split. All it is is making sure the best teams make it.

Just as you cannot say that

we cannot say whether or not a team would or would have not bombed out

In a similar way we cannot say a team which was good/decent/consistent year long to be not allowed to go to champs just becoz they lost to teams in "better form"

Never had i said that Vitality should not make champions, they can just prove that they are the better team by taking advantage of their extra matches to qualify. Simple enough.

If they are good enough, they would qualify through the system.

Your whole thread is based on "VIT" making champs 😭😭😭😭

Seeing the controversy around Vitality qualifying to Champions, there should definitely be something changed when it comes to qualifying through points.

Also they don't need to "prove" to anyone. They were consistent/good/decent year long. That's it. End of the matter.

I can delete the mention of Vitality and bring up other teams, its not about Vitality. I used it as engagement, and you are engaged.

Vitality should prove that they are one of the four best teams right now in EMEA. This gives them the opportunity to do so. If they are one of the best, they will make it. End of story like you said. If they are not able to win out in two more matches compared to other teams, then they don't have the grit. It is a system that gages both current and previous form, rewards both. All bias aside this is a system that allows the best teams to make it, without taking away the meaning the previous performances.

They had it right the first time

Keep it top 3 qual like M2 but the last slot goes to top champs points

I agree, It is a better system than now but It is still flawed.

In entirely my opinion having them not guaranteed the spot, but more chances to get it makes so much more sense and is fair all the way around.

I personally think that this system is overall better regardless, not thinking of Vitality. We can mention EDG and XLG going against BLG and NOVA for the spot.

imagine you win masters 1 and 2, something unfortunate happens stage 2 (player sickness, family emergency, etc...) and then because of your system you don't make it to champs because you sucked ass Stage 2.

Also DRX were a delight to watch last year at champs and im sure some 3rd/4th seed will do the same thing this year.

This is what I thought about when I said its not perfect, but its better than how it is now.

This is something that has not happened yet, but can happen eventually. If this team cannot play without that player that made them win events, but bomb out immediately without him, then the team without that player should not go. They won't use their spot properly.

If they are really that good without the player, these two matches give them time to adjust. If they are as good as they were without this player, they can make it.

At the end of the day this is a very rare, possible, bur very rare instance where no matter what the system is, its unfortunate.

Best teams should go to Champions period. Meta changes and teams suck ass if they cant play certain meta agents. Therefore the best teams during the time of Champions should go through. Biggest tournament of the year and you have 1 or 2 shit teams going through points, is bogus.
