Team Vitality vs. Nongshim Redforce (2-1 NS)
For the first time match between these two teams, fans in Paris got to see a three-map series with plenty of highs and lows for both squads.
The first map of the day was Ascent, with both teams running variations of Phoenix double-Duelist. Vitality earned the first pistol, but when the gun rounds started, Nongshim looked stalwart on defense. Dambi on Neon was zooming around like it was pre-nerf, as Nongshim reached the half up 8-4.
Vitality needed the second pistol to keep the game close quickly, and the team did just that. This time, despite losing the bonus, the team took the gun rounds and reached a 9-9 tie. When a player had to rise to win the map for their team, Derke on Jett stepped up on defense to win Vitality map one 13-10.
Split was up next, with Vitality changing the composition more than Nongshim did with its Phoenix/Neon comp. Xross had a middling map one performance, but he rose to the challenge on map two. Vitality had the early lead after a Nongshim pistol win, but six round wins in a row meant Nongshim had another 8-4 halftime lead.
After another pistol win for Nongshim, even losing the bonus did not matter as Xross and Nongshim converted map two 13-7.
The series came down to Breeze, with both teams running Harbor with comfort picks surrounding them. Vitality earned the pistol, but lost the antieco after and shifted the momentum instantly. Even after a 2-2 tie, Nongshim converted every advantage to run far ahead of Vitality. Derke had a tough time, as Ivy on Viper took over the map with 2Ks and 3Ks galore.
Dambi and Ivy storm through Team Vitality.Up 10-2 at the half, Nongshim converted the final pistol and overcame the force buy to win the map 13-2 and the series 2-1.
Hero performances from Dambi, Xross, and Ivy all helped Nongshim make it to the semis, but the consistency from Francis topped the stats, with a 1.23 match rating.
100 Thieves vs. MIBR (2-1 100T)
The final quarterfinal match of this year's EWC tournament was a regional matchup from VCT, between two squads hoping to finish top four and revitalize their VCT seasons.
Fracture started this series, and a unique 100T Harbor pick worked well on the pistol alongside a fast Asuna and Timotino play. MIBR prevented the bonus round win with an aggressive spawn push, but 100T kept winning rounds to force a timeout. The Phoenix and Neon proved to be too much for MIBR to defend against, as 100T entered the half up 10-2.
Another pistol win for 100T meant MIBR needed to force a comeback, but the map ended quickly at 13-2.
Breeze had to be a better map for MIBR if the team wanted to stay alive in Paris. The situation wasn't ideal, as this was the map pick from 100T. Both teams ran Phoenix/Neon double-Duelist comps with Harbor this time around, but MIBR started strong with a pistol and bonus win. 100T won its first round on round five, but Verno came out on top with a 1v2 clutch to keep MIBR ahead. Chaos ensued, with a tex flank in a 4v3 ending as poorly as it could have.
100T wins a 3v4 retake over MIBR on Breeze. In the next round, tex made up for his mistake by winning the round and forcing a timeout from 100T. Map two looked to be a near mirror of map one, but for MIBR instead, as the team reached halftime up 9-3.
100T, much like MIBR on map one, needed to win the second pistol, but unlike the previous map, the team that was down earned that pistol win. Add onto that a bonus conversion, and 100T were officially back in it. Still down, 100T fought tooth and nail for a late 9-9 tie off a 0.16-second 1v2 three-bullet clutch from vora .
MIBR took a timeout and finally stopped the momentum from 100T to tie the map again at 10-10, and used that shift to end the map 13-10 and tie the series.
Haven was the decider, with aspas moving to Waylay while 100T stayed mostly the same. MIBR stole the first pistol thanks to a Mazino masterclass, but a failed bonus conversion and good retakes placed 100T ahead early on. 100T had a two-round 7-5 lead at the half, and just needed to play well on attack to take the series.
After taking the second pistol, 100T extended the lead to 10-5 with an Asuna 1v2 clutch on the bonus round. That seemed to be the end, as 100T defeated MIBR 13-5 and won the series 2-1.
Asuna was the star across the series, with his strong Phoenix play on maps one and three taking 100T to a top-four finish.
With these results, Nongshim Redforce will face 100 Thieves in the semifinals of the Esports World Cup.
