diamond pearl is peak
Diamond Pearl is the most horrible game in pokemon, with so many problem (Well not counting the switch ERA for obviuous reason), while Platnium was absolutely amazing, people believe DP was good because they only remember Platnium.
It's kinda hard to rate cause all have their good point and bad point thiking twice, I think The 3G-4G tetralogy (RFLG, HGSS, Emearald, Platinum) are at the same level, Emerald got the best battle frontier, 1G got the Sevii that was appealing to the mystery (And that is what is making pokemon game amazing), 2G have lore and Kanto, and Platinum manage to keep them at the same level than the other 2 because it was the pinnacle of the 2D era in term of technique.
I think I would rate BW1 and BW2 at the same level than the 3G4G Tetralogy, BW1 wasnt the game we wanted, but it was the game we needed, people was disturbed because out of their comfort zone, but that's truly what we do needed, it would have been the best pokemon game if it wasn't so linear in term of mapdesign and with a better post league. BW2 was... Amazing, but I feel it could have been better : BW2 should have been to BW1, what Johto was to Kanto, it could have been a new "generation" but with no new pokemon, as for 2G, the story take place few years later with new protagonist, new sotry, and even new city with gym badges... But they stopped it midway, they could have replace everything between Castellia and Mistralton by every city and route that wasn't used by NB1, (Black city, White city, the New Driftveil they made, New Janusia to allow us to have both in same game, and probably the 2 new Route 4 could have replaced some of the route between the common part of BW1 and BW2). It's a little bit hard to rate since it's a sequel, but I would put it nice rank.
Then we've got XY, they are way better if you compare it to RGB, GS, RS or DP... But if you compare them Emerald, RFLG, HGSS, Platinum then they are under them. This generation suffer of the lack of a complementary version. Rate them as the first version of a generation they are best, rate them as the definite version of a Generation and... They become under the rate. I liked Sun and Moon, it was a niec change of gimmick and really feel like eternal vacation, the real prob of this generation is how BAD Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon was. I'm not even sure if the "definite version" of 7G should be USUM because it the last and that is more complete, or if it should be SM because the story is WAY BETTER.
Switch Era was trash
So basically :
Edit : I donno why I named Gold-Silver from 2G "HG" so I edit
XY and SM got so many good ideas, Mega's where great, story has potential, but people complained about "not having enough new pokemon", while they were so many mega they loved to compensate, SM got the vibe and top 2 story tied with BW story, after 2 really serious generation (And 4 really serious games) we just needed vacancy and SM/USUM deliver it perfectly
You were 11 YO when sword and sheild release so that's explain your take (Your opinion is fully understandable), I bet you started with SM (Or SwSh), or maybe ORAS
I recommend you to test BW1, BW2, XY, ORAS if you want to have the big picture, and if you already did it, or you want to see what truly is a postleague, and you are not afraid to old graphics, you can even try the 3G-4G tetralogy and see for example in emerald what is a good postleague (Something we didn't had since this period)
I don't recommend you to test 1G and 2G games the graphism didn't age well compared to the tetralogy, and it's basically HGSS and RFLG but worse
Isnt the "all team boss" a little bit weak in term of narrative ? Making it a fanservice bad made ?
Every legendary possible is...Good to mark the end of a series, but I cant compare to for example emerald battle frontier in terms of "infinite postgame content"
Ultra Necrozma is just the completing trio like in every pokemon game (And its a terribly unbalanced boss fight) sounds as minimum service for a complementary there.
Is they are something you liked in the series in term of story in USUM that it didnt had in SM ?
I only played gen 3 romhacks but it speaks how great of a game Emerald is because it's one of best gba emulator game. (also gen 3 was so strong holy fuck so memorable)
Platinum is nice but im not much of a gen 4 mon lover
B2/W2 started with a high ground and ended with a low ceiling but i still enjoy it
US/UM looked nice and felt nice they knew what to improve
I can't defend switch generations though, like it's going backwards or even the wrong direction. They focused more on cash grabs sure but it should be much better or groundbreaking ? God forbid Brick Bronze to live and fan games to profit cause they did much better
