You gotta be able to play 3 roles in my opinion.
your definition of 3 roles would mean chronicle isnt a flex, hes only senti and initiator
i think if you play like 7+ agents at a high level youre a flex
i think earlier in valorant chronicle was mislabled as a flex, he only ever played 2-3 agents an event but now hes fully a flex, even if hes only viper/senti+ini
munchkin is more of a flex when it comes to the playstyle that comes with the agents he plays; when he is playing flash ini like breach or kayo, he is solely focused on grouping with the team and setting them up for either execs or retakes, but when he is on viper, he plays solo a lot either hard lurking and getting important frags or anchoring a site. it is very difficult for a player to master multiple playstyles, but those who are flexible can do so with success.
i feel like traditionally teams’ “flex” has just been whichever initiator plays viper (or senti or dome smokes) in a double controller comp. like saadhak on loud, c0m on eg, etc. nowadays due to the insane variety in comps it’s really hard to pin down what a flex player is. for NRG, for example, is brawk the flex (plays vyse)? is ethan (plays harbor)?
yes, players like nukkye and zekken would play sova in double init and raze in double duelist comps (iirc). in the chamber meta those “flex” players would mainly play primary duelist, and the “flex” player would then be the old sentinel player.
point being “flex” is kinda hard to pin down as a role and is not necessarily just playing multiple roles.
trad flex is viper breach kayo
initi flex is just every initi except scans
off duelist flex is second duelist/flashes/double smokes omen
anchor flex is senti/brim/iso/second duelist jett
backline support flex is scans/viper/tejo
true flex is play anything
aggro support flex is flashes/second duelist yoru/omen
traditional duelist split flex is either jett or raze/kj+cypher
really its just whatever roles your team needs, the best flex players dont really need to play x roles or x agents, they just need to be good enough on the agents that the other players dont play
All these PRX fans wanna try to shift goalposts just because PRX has many role deficiencies. Just be a critically thinking human being and use your brain. Chronicle plays sentinel/initiator almost equally so he’s a flex player. Alfa plays sentinel on many more maps than duelist so he’s a sentinel. Idk bro some of these players are just flex players like wtf are you gonna consider munchkin? Is he a controller just because he plays pretty much only Viper? He doesn’t play any other controller. Did he just fucking create a new role I guess???
flex means you play the role that appears twice in the comp
example:
viper in a double controller comp with omen
breach in a double initiator comp with tejo or sova
cypher in a double senti comp with deadlock
neon/raze in a double duelist comp with yoru? (not as common)
a good example of your average flex player would be Chronicle, JonahP, or zellsis.
an example of an above expectation flex player would be f0rsaken.
just because a player plays multiple roles doesnt make them a flex though
players like yay or cryo are not flex players, even if they play both duelist and senti/smokes.
i was about to say this. cryo isnt a flex player since he plays one/two agent in multiple roles, but you cant really call him a duelist, and/or a smokes player, he's a weird in-between.
also if the team comp has to "flex" around a certain player, said player isnt a flex player. For example, cryo on sage
i think it's more "can x player play whatever agent we're gonna ask them to play" instead of "play 3 roles kekw".
good examples are people like wo0t, chron, zellsis, jonahp, etc.
f0rsaken is a very extreme example of a flex as he's absolutely insane and can just play whatever the fuck, but GENERALLY i think the definition is what i've said.
