the emea ascension league is laughable

Here's a thread about how emea talent will just go to waste with the system.

Things that are horribly wrong:

  1. Region wise team restrictions: so in a huge region like emea, minimum 3 players from a region have to play in a team, this fucks over team building. For example the team ISTANBUL WILDCATS was going to be a roster with 7ssk7 braveaf deffo and aslan, but the team quite literally isnt allowed to exist
  2. no cis league: which is understandable but with the region restrictions, it kills teambuilding, no russian talent can reliably flourish
  3. limited teams from each region qualify into ascension league: THIS IS THE WORST ONE, theres a LARGE amount of GOOD turkish teams and only one can qualify.
look at the polaris teams. https://www.vlr.gg/event/1423/challengers-league-northern-europe-polaris-split-1/regular-season
THERES FOKUS WHO DEFEATED C9 and look great
    APEKS WITH MAGNUM MISTIC ENZO
then theres LPP with l1nk and vong
ONLY ONE OF THESE TEAMS WILL QUALIFY THIS IS INSANE

this is actually laughable, this region is full of talent and most of it is going to be stuck in vrls, no franchised org will ever pick a full vrl team, so now good cores will just be stuck in vrls or be separated if orgs poach talent, this is actually insane i cant believe this is a real thing

Most of those players/teams aren't nearly as good as you think. But ya the rules aren't great.

most ascension rosters arent franchised teams yes, but theres always potential, not letting talent grow is bad, even if it seems mediocre

every resource put into EMEA regional leagues is a resource wasted

you have teams that literally admit they are doing it as a hobby... zero competitive drive. consolidate serious rosters into a real challengers league without region restrictions

I kinda like the minimum 3 rule, it spreads the talent out instead of concentrating it all in the french and spanish leagues. then talent from that region gets given more opportunity too. Short term there wont be as many good teams as with 2 minimum. Over time it in the long runn it will pay off as talent comes through better.

Kind of sad what happened to the CIS league. Tbh I think CIS league should have combined with East: Surge so a full russian team is possible.

Yes +1000000000000 Riot emea need a hard look into this and need to do only 3 leagues or 4 if we include turkey
Turkey gets its own league ok
north european league
western european league (france, spain, benelux portugal italy etc)
and eastern league
With no import restrictions, and the bigger leagues (like western for example) get more than 10 teams, maybe 15.

The way it is rn, nobody is watching anyway. They can't apply league of legends program to valorant, as league of legends is at least 10x more popular than valorant. ZERO viewership, less leagues please and less import restrictions within the region

1 is biggest problem, not having cis league would have been less painful if not for that 1. teams could have a more competitive roster but they needed to fill that local quota.

What makes you think that only one team per VCL qualifies? There are 9 leagues in the EMEA region so how would 1 team pro league work

It's confirmed that only the winner of each league goes to ascension tournament. The objective is to have 10 leagues when CIS comeback and make the league like that but as of now they're gonna have trouble, last year it was 7 teams for example

I'm sorry but hard disagree on every point, I get it might look like it but if you actually look into it it's really not that way, let me explain:

  1. I believe it's really important to potentiate regional talent, it might decrease the level rn but it is the price to pay to have a better and more balanced for the future, if you don't do that you basically kill the future of many regions. Also keep in mind this is just a transition year, idk if you are aware about the rule that makes player who have played 2 splits in the same league become regional. Not sure if it starts counting from this split or last one tho. For example rebels in Spain has already based their whole project on making 3 players regional (Gatsh, Janny and vokashu) for next split and make a superteam. There's tools

  2. I think you can understand why there's no CIS league. They actually tried and then had to call it off because it was impossible. This also explains the IW case you're complaining about. That's not a system problem, nothing they can do with global politics.

  3. Limited spots for ascension, 2 main things. First of all there is no accurate and objective way of predicting which league was gonna be the strongest so it's literally impossible and unfair to give a region more slots. And second of all I understand you want to see more teams face each other and that's actually something they should work on but I don't buy your point simply because there is 1 team ascending after all, so if the turk second seed can't beat the turk 1st seed is not like they have any chance of ascending. But again it does suck that for example if turkey wins we don't get to know if the turk 2nd seed was actually the second best ascension team, but it's not like it actually affects competition. Plus in the future 2 teams are supposed to ascend so I wouldn't be surprised if they give each region 2 slots

the players only count as regional if they have permanent residency in the country that is a member of a regional league... check the rules again

Ik exactly what the rules say you did not understand what I said. There is a rule that says that players who spend 2 or more splits in a league being non regional players, will become regional after those 2 splits.

Exact same thing happens in LOL for example, in the spanish league you need 3 regional players but still most teams have 1 or some even no spanish player at all due to this rule

I think they shouldnt have expanded the leagues so much.
A reduce amount of leagues maybe 4? would be alot more paletable.

riot should think about relaxing the region restrictions at least for players from countries not represented in vlrs because the cis league aint coming back.

no cis league is even worse when you consider that the only reason emea has won events is because of cis players.
