Was SEN signing dephh as an igl nepotism from Syyko?

Yea. They could've picked up Yay while he was still a free agent
Instead, they chose to wait for dephh

Syyko said in an interview they tried to get him, but the C9 offer was far too good to refuse. You're talking out of your ass.

??? SEN have TenZ, who plays the exact same agents as yay. dephh is an igl, a completely different role from TenZ and yay. 0/8

#37

Yea but yay will be able to frag much more
He can get first bloods and tp away
Dephh can't do that on kayo

#35

they... don't... play the same role... not only that, but Syyko mentioned in an interview that he did actually consider yay for Sentinels, but that yay received an offer that he "couldn't say no to" or something like that, so they ended up keeping TenZ to fill that role.

#38

But what abt another igl apart from yay?

Which other IGL would be better and would fit the necessary roles? They have possibly the best smokes + initiator in the world with pAncada and Sacy respectively coming off of a champs win, and they have an entry player in zekken. The best option was very obviously dephh, having worked with Syyko and zekken already for years, giving Sentinels a HUGE head-start in the strategy + synergy departments.

If the duo of Sykko and Dephh works why change
Also no, they aren't related.
They may be friends, but they met during their professional career. Coach is basically a reference

It's not about being relatives, there are better igls in NA for sure. dephh didnt even solo igl on xset ayrin was igling with him.

Nepotism exists everywhere

I agree with this, and nepotism "in of itself" is not necessarily a bad thing, if used as a professional reference. Depthh and Sykko had great success with Xset, friends, knows how each other work, and want to be successful elsewhere.

That's fine with me, as compared to Shaz and Rawkus ( who showed know tac for igl on a 1 trick Faze team). And now with Tenz saying he was unmotivated to preform on that team... just adds to the poor nepotism of Shaz and Rawkus.

nothing compares to nepotism FC aka c9

i mean that is how esports works in all aspects, if you have connections with people it will help you get in teams etc. but i think dephh is the right man for the job anyway so he would get in regardless of knowing the coach

#16

I mean with all due respect to your countryman in NA, I really dont think dephh would've guaranteed made it to SEN if it werent for that XSET connection

I wouldnt say this if dephh played insane but his performance always leaves more to be desired and honestly falls within mediocrity

Compare that to sacy and pancada who they just brought in... there's a clear quality gap in the roster

#19

but who would you rather take in the role of IGL than dephh in this case? i think that dephh has alot of individual impact (not something you can say for all igls), and without knowing too much about the innerworkings of his team, seems like a top igl

#22

Thats an easy answer for me: valyn

Dude plays creative Valorant (look at Guard always bringing in new comps and new strats), is a fragging igl, and is beloved by his teammates

Not saying dephh isnt any of things I mentioned above, but from what I saw I value valyn's igling much more than dephh

I think valyn is also a good option, but if you are syyko as a coach (someone who works very closely with an igl), you are going to choose someone whose personality you already know (rly important aspect), existing synergy, more experienced overall and not necessarily a bad individual either.

I dont think that is necessarily nepotism either because usually it's something you'd call if the person was unqualified or didn't deserve the position, If you looked objectively at both players I'd say they matchup evenly or even weighted towards dephh due to his more recent results + more experienced.

Ofcourse there might be some bias for Syyko but that is fair in the context of picking players for a team, especially because there was quite a short period of time for the roster lock too, so picking someone who he knows can do the job is a good thing. Also from an outside perspective it's also hard to give an opinion on X or Y's IGLing because most IGLs will have a system where they rely on multiple vocal players within a team, and some players might contribute to mid round calls more than others etc etc etc so other than citing results you can't really judge which igl is better than another

I dont think its nepotism either, I just dont agree with your second point saying dephh would've gotten the job regardless if Syyko was there or not

#29

yeah its a possibility but that is just how most teams operate in esports - connections

How you gonna complain about nepotism (which isn’t even the right word) with a C9 flair

#23

He answered it on the interview with Wyatt. Basically his thought process was that he didn't want to start from ground zero with the next LAN being so close, so he chose a familiar figure who knows the protocol and everything and can be trusted. Also, it's hard to know the value of an IGL from outside looking in, yes zander or someone else might be a great fragger but it's hard to know their true worth as an IGL without knowing the inner workings of that team. Also, the perception of Dephh not being able to call defensive half isn't true, since Ayrin already had calling qualities from his prev experience in other esports and since it's easier to call defensive rounds as a site anchor, it was just a min-maxing decision to put Ayrin as the CT side IGL. So, basically he said that Dephh is qualified enough and syyko trusts him to do the job well.

honestly I agree with Syyko's reasoning. Building a team from scratch is incredibly difficult, having someone who understands the coach's vision is a massive plus and should help SEN hit the ground running

What a stupid post. I'm sure that Dephh was instrumental in these decisions and with Syko BOTH had plans to bring the whole XSet squad over.

they probably would've been better off picking up flexinja for his omen outplays
