instalock. not necessarily a duelist or chamber, but whatever you are the best at. in the 20% of games where you make the difference between win/lose, you don't want to be on an agent you're just OK at. you are the only thing that doesn't change game to game.

wouldn't you be cocky if you were the best player in the scene?

Which other IGL would be better and would fit the necessary roles? They have possibly the best smokes + initiator in the world with pAncada and Sacy respectively coming off of a champs win, and they have an entry player in zekken. The best option was very obviously dephh, having worked with Syyko and zekken already for years, giving Sentinels a HUGE head-start in the strategy + synergy departments.

posted about a year ago

they... don't... play the same role... not only that, but Syyko mentioned in an interview that he did actually consider yay for Sentinels, but that yay received an offer that he "couldn't say no to" or something like that, so they ended up keeping TenZ to fill that role.

OK so this guy is NOT Patiphan the ex-XERXIA/LA Gladiators player, it's a different guy who happens to be Thai and have the first name Patiphan.

posted about a year ago

yes, and based on the fact that there has literally never been a single indian player at a masters or champs that they probably will not get represented in the starting 5. it's already been claimed that SKRossi will be 6th man for the roster, which means that the best (or at least most well-known) indian player wasn't good enough to make the cut.

posted about a year ago

they aren't because they aren't the best players, so GE is going to pick up a real roster of 5 players they think can compete internationally and keep 5 indian players who will never actually play to appease their fans

posted about a year ago

They do this usually because there isn't a better option. On maps like Icebox, you absolutely must have a Sage in order to even consider the B side of the map, which is why that's usually when fraggers play her. The comp that works best on that map is Sage, Kay/O, Chamber, Viper, and Sova, all of which are critically important to play the map consistently. Some teams have done Raze+Fade instead of Kay/O and Sova, but even that has mediocre results and is inconsistent.

TL;DR:

Sage is consistent on Icebox, duelists are not, and fraggers can farm orbs really fast to get lots of value.

posted about a year ago

no, almost every other entry/flex player in the top 20 is better than him, have more experience, and don't have a huge reputation stain to work against them, so no franchised team will pick him up now, and probably not ever realistically.

I like how a lot of these are reasonable and then he tried to sneak in Simple and Zywoo as if they'd switch from being the top of their games as not even starting players for these teams lmao

Teams usually take at least a day or two off of prac after a big win to cool off, it's like taking a timeout after a clutch.

Simple answer: Not enough talent. Most of the unsigned female players aren't nearly good enough to play on an academy team (most are asc/imm pug rosters), just like most T2/T3 unsigned male teams, and orgs won't risk picking them up over F/A T1 players. Those who are signed aren't going to leave for a highly risky chance at a higher level of competition, or can't leave because of their contracts. meL specifically was offered a trial with KCP before they left the scene, and that's arguably the best player in all of GC.

TL;DR: doesn't make sense for players or orgs to take a risk when they can get pre-proven T1 talent.

pretty sure that's backwards, most of Europe did pretty well against COVID compared to the US. the stadium only has ~3000 seats, and for the first LAN with an audience that's not too bad.

??? it's an mRNA vaccine, it uses messenger ribonucleic acid (the same stuff that transcribes genetic data from your DNA to your ribosomes to make proteins you need to exist) to basically tell your body "Hey, make x protein that fights x disease". In the case of COVID, it's the spike protein present in the shell of the virus. Your body then begins to produce this protein, and it is integrated into the cell membrane of the muscle cells around the injection site. Your immune system identifies that the spike protein should not be present in a normal cell, so an immune response including antibody production begins in order to fight off the potential antigen. This is why you get mildly ill when you get a COVID vaccine, your body's immune response is active at a lower threshold than if you were to actually get COVID. After a while, the immune response dies down, but your body has a special type of cell called a memory B cell that is activated when you are exposed to the real virus, which enables a swifter, more efficient immune response. Memory B cells do not last forever, and in the case of COVID their lifespan is about a year, give or take a few months depending on the initial response's severity. The same thing happens when you catch COVID and aren't vaccinated, it's all part of your body's natural immune response.

TL;DR: It is a vaccine. It's a new type of vaccine that uses your body's immune system.

show me one real study that's not funded by antivax/scientologists that proves that the vaccine is not effective at keeping people safe from severe, hospitalization-requiring cases of COVID.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the #1 GC team in the world and the #2 GC team in the world aren't getting carried by one transgender player. For example, G2 doesn't even have a transgender player as far as I can tell from their twitters, and C9's only transgender player is Bob who plays initiation support and isn't outperforming the cisgender female players like meL and Jazzykins on that team. Clearly, if having transgender players in GC would ruin it, these teams would be getting clapped and carried by transgender players, so your argument is invalid.

You know that C9W did win two series in the last VCT qual, right? How will GC teams ever hit the level of T1 male teams if they don't get to play against them?

posted about a year ago

fingers crossed, I think it'd be cool if the winners of the GC championship got a spot at a masters or at champs so there'd be more of a direct path to success

edit: this was supposed to be replying to the comment that potter played in main vct, idk why vlr did it to my OP

posted about a year ago

I'm honestly not sure, tbf Pioneers was having some good matches and I don't think they ever played against C9W, but also they disbanded pretty fast with their last iteration

posted about a year ago

Yes. The GC teams don't get to play against good T1 teams because it's illogical to go from stomping the fuck out of diamond F/A teams in GC to trying to play against the hardest competition around with little practice against said harder competition.

just looked at her vlr, she looks like she's a good duelist, crazy high ACS/ADR numbers

posted about a year ago

I want to start off by saying that this is not one of those cringe transphobic/sexist threads that are getting deleted, so don't modcheck me.

I think that GC is a great way to bring more of an incentive to women and other marginalized genders in the gaming space to compete and come to VALORANT as an eSport. In this, it's excelled, as I believe that VALORANT is the only major eSports title to have major events specifically targeted at this demographic, so it is objectively a success for Riot for it to grow as big as it is.

With that said, I also think that it's created an unfortunate feedback loop that may actually damage the ability of some really good players to play in the main VCT events and find success at that level. It seems like all of the female players, regardless of their skill level, who want to compete go straight into GC. The only example of a female player on a highly competitive team was Scourge on Complexity as far as I can tell. The feedback loop I'm talking about is this: Female player tries to go pro --> Female pro joins a GC F/A team --> F/A team gets signed and stays in GC, preventing any of the best female talent from taking the next step up to participating in T1 --> New GC team can compete within GC but not in main VCT --> Players on GC teams get hate for not being as good as T1 teams --> Best GC players stay in GC because they can make a living doing what they love. I know meL specifically said she got an offer to trial with Pioneers and turned it down, and I can see why. Not only is developing a connection with your teammates hard, it takes a long time. There's no incentive other than the desire to compete at a higher level for players to go from T1 GC to T1 overall (although C9W was probably better than Pioneers at that time already). If anyone has an example of players who've made that jump, please let me know, because I'd love to be wrong. I know teams like C9W and G2 Gozen do play in the VCT Challengers qualifiers and they do better and better every year, but I think most people would agree that an already-T1 team with players like meL or florescent on it would perform better than they are right now.

TL;DR: I think some potentially T1 skill level female/marginalized players have gone to GC instead of T1/T2/T3 VCT teams, and there are a ton of incentives for them to do so. I wish that these teams could be "The best" and not "The best asterisk"

posted about a year ago

All I'm gonna say is that the people who get banned/get their threads deleted are the people who are clearly trying to claim that trans people aren't the gender they identify as/transitioned to or that their genetic makeup is the sole reason for their success, when in reality arguably the best GC team has arguably the best GC player (meL on C9W) and a great support structure/coaching, and that's the main reason for their success, not their 23rd pair of chromosomes.

OK, regardless, the fact that their performance from the start of the year is considered when they've been getting eviscerated by every other decent team is stupid.

how the fuck does sentinels get to go to lcq and potentially champs but the teams like ghost don't, shit's dumb af. there's no way rito small indie game company thinks that a team performing well an entire year ago deserves to go to champs instead of an actual good team

posted about a year ago

Asuna asked to be on initiator. He is still performing on that role, he dropped 72 in tonight's match. Don't flame these players for "bad" performances, it's not like Asuna is crying about his entry not getting enough kills. Players like Will, Victor, and D3ffo all play entry, but they take space instead of getting kills. There's a reason why they're on a professional team and you're not.

posted about a year ago

No they won't. FPX won against Acend today with their top two being support players who were both barely positive. They win from team chemistry and coordination. The best teams in the world have at least one star player who CAN carry/pop off, but they also don't NEED to in order to win. OpTic is another great example, they have yay but they're still dominant even when he's on an off day because they play well together.

posted about a year ago

So far, Dreamas has been drastically underperforming compared to his supportive teammates. Soulcas has the occasional popoff game, and Nivera/Jamppi both regularly do numbers, but Dreamas has averaged less than 150 ACS. What kind of role changes are needed here? It seems like he's just in Breach jail and isn't really good at Breach. Most people will probably think "Oh, he's just setting Scream up for success", but he also has low assist numbers, which is even worse than low ACS for someone whose entire job is to assist the entry frag.

TL;DR: Dreamas is underperforming, how can Liquid make up for or fix it without roster moves?

posted about a year ago

It probably will just be an extra ban added by the TO for each series or the higher seed gets an extra ban realistically. Ban, Ban, Ban, Pick, Pick, Ban, Ban, last map decider most likely.

posted about a year ago

like 70% of the posts on VLR after every single match are just whining to drop x player who didn't perform well. with every single one, there's a reason why they didn't perform well, whether it's not scrimming, sudden substitutes, losing to a team that just played better than them with antistrats and put in the time to win, etc. TenZ isn't getting dropped unless he wants to bench himself. ShahZam isn't getting dropped unless he benches himself. Derke isn't getting dropped because he has a bad game here and there. D3ffo isn't getting dropped because of one bad match. all of these teams have built up team chemistry and bonds over the course of multiple months, and unless there is a serious issue within the team like someone being toxic, or having health problems, or there is a significant upgrade immediately available to the team that they can't pass up (e.g. mwzera for VK), they're not dropping players.

thank you for coming to my ted talk, I'm ready for my downvotes now

posted about a year ago

all of these people are talking about how the teams that are t1 are going to leave, but it's very obvious that at least the top 3 teams in NA should be getting spots in franchising (OpTic, Guard, C9), not to mention the other seven hypothetical ones in this model. It's not even confirmed that LG dropped the roster because of franchising, it's just a random theory that's being taken as a fact. Their parent company lost $8m+ over the past year, so they're downsizing. It's that simple.
