I doubt many would even know what it is, mostly people jumped from 7 to 10
But those who did use it, what was your experience? I did so I'll share that later

Hmm the Start UI was very complex
Especially after you downloaded apps, you'd have to open Start and then go down to the app gallery
i mean the thing is i never personally used Windows 8 it was our smart board and we had no mouse so sometimes traversing from the UI was shit too but that could be because We had no mouse
Yea it's the one that was actually usable, Windows 8 was just pure tablet mode and was pathetic.
Yea it was actually good. I like what Microsoft was planning with a new Start menu for PCs but they couldn't execute it well
Though they've gone away from that idea, they did pretty well with the Windows 10/11 menus
I did back in like 2013, honestly nothing notable about it. Was def worse than 7 and 10 and 11
The last good thing that come out of microsoft was windows 7, i would genuinely consider using it if it wasnt for like every application including valorant ending support for it
Some decent qualities, but the implementation ended up horrible
Was before I got my first SSD (laptop only at that point) so the whole user experience was borderline unusable, but returning to it for testing software comparability on a more powerful machine its fine
The core issue is that the windows store/apps just suck in general (on win10/11 too) so an OS that is more integrated with them just feels worse
The constant switching between Desktop and "Mobile" modes felt clunky too
Ultimately I ended up trying to do everything in the normal desktop mode cause those load times to swap between modes were maddening
Ik its gotten worse since, but the fact that they shipped the search function in the state they did BACK WHEN NO ONE HAD SSDs is also criminal
From a UX designer im definitely intrigued by the Mobile like layout for apps (since its SO much easier for newer users than folder structures), but it'd need better integration (and either everything or nothing should open on the desktop mode... same perceived action -> same result)
Well said, it was also heavy on the device and not that user friendly if you were accustomed to Windows Vista/7
