Why does your country have one of the largest population in the world but the only notable name in the scene is Skrossi

What is holding India back? Culture?

No offense just being curious

from what ive heard most of their players treat it like a job, they only put in the bare minimum and dont practice much outside of what they have to (from what ive heard)

true and like most people don't have good pc ( i get 80 fps on plat rn ) there is small amount of people that have like good pc
most Indian get there first pc after they turn 18 so you don't have that much time to play game and mostly they just trying for jobs

I think the culture is just more mobile gaming focused because everyone has a phone and I checked and found some data from the ITU that says that only 70% of the Indian population has internet which is a big chunk lacking internet

That is being changed with a government initiative called “Har Ghar SKRossi Yojana”

india was good at pubgm but the govt just banned that game twice for 2 years, killing its esports, as the gateway to international events was closed for like 3yrs, which made india in pubgm the china of vct internationals

indian f0rsaken set back indian esports by like a decade or more when he was on optic cs

even then they were given plenty of chances on previous iteration of GE, but still looked like a tier 2 team at best

is the culture , no future in esports so no point of investing time, money and effort into something that might not even work out ,
Job oriented mentality has ruined indian youth creativity , curiosity etc. final aim is to earn living and sustain a family

this has always been my take:
their tier 1 ORG decided to only let one Indian player play since the start of franchise
and then decide not to sign any Indian player again after 2024

GE not even give enough Indian players a chance

Yea and honestly, both the rosters in which Skrossi and LF were given chances, were doomed to fail.
And the most hilarious thing is that GE with little to no Indian players had the same results as they would've had if the whole roster was Indian LMAOOO

The Big population numbers doesnt matter when the number of people who can afford a good gaming PC+Broadband connection+can afford to give time to gaming would be less than Nordic countries.

Well it's the mindset of parents too, idk how many gamers died following the rat race of becoming doctors and engineer

true, but it should be the same around the world not just India

Esports is not considered as a career here. Due to overpopulation, competition to get employed is very high, so kids have to grind. Even radiants that could go pro from India prepare for JEE and stuff, so naturally less time for prac, and hence no good players.

It's not worth it from the players' perspectives to try and become a pro. There's not much incentives.

yaa that to but next year we can have good chance

It's the way of thinking of parents there , they expect their kids to be a master at everything except games. They think PC games are distraction and do not let their kids play. So poor kids don't even try to think about competing in online games. I can assure you that a normal human can't survive in indian society , they have this extreme mental pressure to be successful and look after their family. And the competition there is highest in the world.

I do think next year we can see a good amount of player like new players from India and maybe i hope that India can prove that we can be as good as SEA

playing vid games, even in moderation is seen as a vice as bad as drugs or alcohol in loads of parts also a big challenge is getting a laptop in the 1st place since many hostels ban them or students are too poor; Indian val scene is carried by mid range laptops; also the reason why console culture is absolutely irrelevant(even harder to find and parents dont buy such stuff)

#35

Mobile gaming is more prevalent here, PC is not as popular

#36

Its cuz esports needs infrastructure, coaching, stable org investment, strong servers/tournaments, and family/career acceptance — India is still catching up there.

Culture plays a part too: most if not all players face pressure to choose “safe” careers, so fewer can grind val professionally full-time compared with regions like Korea, Europe, or NA.

Most don't have decent PC. Culture different. Parents are not fans of us gaming, let alone the idea of us entering a gaming career. Also most kids get PC like when they turn like 18.
