I want to start a vanilla hardcore world and call it my "forever world", the only thing is, what is the point? Like don't get me wrong, I will have fun but after I beat the ender dragon, once I have like elytra and stuff, what's the point?

it kinda is tho. There is no one to show it to, no one to play it with, no one to build with. I mean I could stream it or make updates on YouTube but realistically no one will care or watch it.
the most important thing is that it brings you joy.
If you like building things, seeing your world grow, seeing the ideas that have started as simple brainstorms in your own mind come to fruition or just exploring the world and have excitement while doing it, it is worth cherishing.
Like in real life some people will do things on their own and people outside will wonder, why does he do this stuff?
streaming is hard af unless you clip yourself and post on tiktok/insta
people love hardcore content on youtube though its probably one of the easiest ways to blow up as a new channel if you know anything about editing and watch enough youtube to know how to pace it its crazy (example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3h2Tp-ZGrQ 1.1m views on this and its mostly just captions and basic cuts)
what is the point of life? just like your hardcore world, the life itself ends as well.
It's a sandbox, you have to make it fun, it's like lego the thing itself isn't that fun but what you can do with it it's fun
i tried this new thing where i dont kill the dragon and get the elytra right away, and i dont make concentration camps for villagers for all trades. i do more builds and exploration and i dont try to cheese everything with auto farms from youtube. i dont play every day, but i play more over a year compared to just having a 2 week phase
also i tried new building styles instead of the good o'l spruce and stone palette
hardcore ≠ forever world unless you never die
its a sandbox though so the point is to do whatever you want and build whatever you want a lot of players like minmaxxing and building farms or whatever, some like makes a lot of detailed builds in their worlds, other wants to collect as much as possible, up 2 u
If you are not a guy who builds, then there is really no point in forever worlds. After some time you can't get any better in terms of gear and your progress will stop there, but if you try to create a world that suits you with builds, towns, villages etc, then you would find yourself the will to continue to play.
exactly the forever world thing kinda feels like a trend the same way "perfect start in hardcore" or whatever is. though in a hc world you can stretch it out by doing crazy projects to push progress
I think the idea of forever world suits guys like fhwip so much. They are creating a world they love and they doing it so good that even you want to make one.
The main point for those kinds of worlds after you "beat it", is to play -> find problem -> solve problem (imo without guides, since you actually spend time engaging with the game mechanics then)
Usually the motivator for finding the problems is making large builds, but if that isnt for you you can also go for those huge "tech server goals" (e.g. I want to automate every single item in the game [you will need youtube for those kind of goals though])
I personally have never played a forever world in hardcore though, so idk how it changes it
In general I find forever worlds really challenging as a whole and much prefer booting up a server to play with friends for a couple months every 2-3 years (with the goal of everyone creating a mega base)
