Genuine question.
I have been watching VCT for a few weeks now, and I see a lot of posts on VLR that are in the vein of "They [FNC] will never remove Boaster from their team". Why? I actually really like Boaster as a personality, but I don't think (or atleast understand) why he is rated so highly.
First of all, even without looking at his stats, he has Kajaak, Veqaj and Crashies on his team. Not only are they the best aimers in his team, but probably top 5 in the world, alongside people like yay and TenZ. But when you look at his stats and gameplay, it gets worse.
He has some of the worst movement in the game. His counter strafing is pretty subpar, he has some of the most egregious jump peeking I have seen, and his movement during shooting is just not it. I mean, these mechanical errors can be overlooked because he seems to usually play more anchor agents like Astra or Brimstone, but then you come to his shooting, which is arguably even worse. His crosshair placement is usually around the knee or pelvis area (if we are being generous), his headshot percentage is usually below 30, his first bullet accuracy... is pretty much non-existent (except for one gun which... I will get back to), and his spray control is... well, I guess it is there. Don't get me wrong, he is definitely a decent player, but in a roster like FNC, how is he the most valuable player?
I also see a lot of mentions of his utility plays, but I'll be honest while his utility is pretty decent, it's not like it swings rounds in their way or anything. Does he have any connections with FNC and/or Riot games? I see him a lot with Yinsu from the desk, I assume they are affiliated in some way?
On top of that I have a huge issue with his roles. He seems to be a perma-smokes player with a little bit of breach sprinkled in. I think that's the worst role for him, and I'll explain why.
You look at some of his most high impact games, his most round swinging frags. It could be a massive buy round, or a do-or-die Overtime on Bind. You know what I am getting at - This guy has some of the highest impact when he is on the AWP. His peeks are not the best but his angle holding and micro flicks are next to none. Why then is he forced to play agents that require constant utility cycling, like Astra?
To me, it feels like a coaching problem. IMO Boaster should be on Chamber as many maps as possible, to get the most value out of his fragging, and their sentinel should switch over to smokes to adjust for that.
