wytb?

all but like 4-8 teams were playing their first games together on stage as a core and it was elim

just a troll tournament if you knew what was happening at the time

im not arguing that the tourney wasnt weird

im arguing that the format itself wasnt crazy and wild and wacky and weird cuz its an OG format

Single elim + No qualifiers/seeding. This event was just meant to be an exhibition tournament not something to be held to the same regard as a masters.

#11

no qualifiers/seeding doesnt matter when legit every team was there

#13

exactly it just waters down the tournament because some teams at the time were really bad

#17

But the teams that won were good

#20

the top 4 teams kept at least 3 players from before franchising + they were top teams to begin with so it made sense

#19

It does though because a bunch of teams were full of new players playing their first few games on stage together which favored certain teams and players more.

It was one of the best format ever , but people care too much abkut single elimination

#40
hoboclap

because valorant is too inconsistent of a game to justify single elim.
It was a bad format for the teams, but fun to watch if you like upsets.
Also, its valued less since most teams were changing their entire teams while the top 4 were just teams that kept their core

lockin is just not the same type of tournament as any other vct sanctioned event, so its not fair to place it in the same regard as a masters that everyone had to go through a regional stage to qualify to, and then a double elim bracket to prove they were worthy of a trophy

also, 2023 teams were so fucking bad, the start of franchising had at least half of the league if not more as just objectively worse teams than the 2022 circuit had, which is why i discredit it compared to masters 1s of today

I don't think people dislike it there's just a big narrative about it being the mickiest tournament of them all

It is a mickey mouse because any team can have a bad day and no lower bracket just increases the luck factor significantly in such tournament. 2 chances for every team makes a tournament harder for teams and more entertaining for viewers. Who does not want to watch more matches of their fav teams ffs

yeah so every major sport like football and basketball and every major e-sport like league and cs are just moronic since they all rock single elim apparently lol
people are so biased it's crazy

#25

You do realize that all those sports have a regular season (qualifier) before their 'playoffs' start right? They dont just throw in all the teams in the league and decide their fate off of one loss.

#26

CS also afaik only ever runs single elim for the playoffs in tournaments. In majors they run swiss for group stages and in other seasonal tournaments they often run double or even triple elim for groups.

#28
PandaZ

That format makes way more sense than single elim from the start, you give the teams that had a bad day a second chance to bounce back and once you get to playoffs you're left with the better teams which at that point single elim is not bad.

#31

Yeah the only thing they do that I hate is that in group swiss for majors, all non-qualification/elimination games are bo1, which imo is genuinely inexcusable now that they've moved to MR13.

#35
PandaZ

Facts Bo1s only made sense before the MR13 change since the argument was to cut down the event length but now that matches are shorter I see no reason why all games should not just be Bo3s since its a major

?? Every major football tournament has a group stage?? Nba has a group stage too and best of 7 in playoffs?????? These group stages give each of the teams enough chances,???? Do u think these are even comparable to a one and done tournament ?? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Coming to sao polo just to play 1 match

I mean when you look at the bracket and also consider how many of the cores literally just formed due to franchising, it's gotta be the most Mickey to ever Mouse. Fnatic played one good team the whole tournament. 2023 Sen - shit. 2023 Furia - shit. 2023 100T - shit. 2023 Navi - just ok. 2023 Loud - actually good. Hyping up Lock/In is like still hyping up 2021 Reykjavik

Hardest? Buddy the level of competition of that tournament was the lowest of all post franchise tourney. The reason fnatic could have an era because they were the only one who reads the meta well but more importantly have a stronger fire power. Now these days firepower (super team) is not a factor because the game evolved and the competition level has risen, proof: mibr and vitality not qualified to santiago. And i am not just being emea hater either, sentinels early dominance also doesn't mean sht. If you watch Lol worlds, would you considers the first world event as serious in competition? Probably not unless you are hard coping as emea fan. Don't get me wrong i still have lock in event as my top 5 favorite purely for the crowds energy and especially the grandfinal which will be hard to top imo but the level of competition is just not there for all the regions if we are being honest, hence I agreed with the take that lock in should be considers as a Mickey mouse event aka easiest event.

I see people crying about format n what not but deep inside everyone knows LockIn was hype af... Music was hype... Agent release was hype.... Player entrances were hyppeeee.... Grand finale was GOATED....
Dream tournament man... Enjoyed it thoroughly

An event can both be a low competition and also be enjoyable. Most people just saying that it was easiest event not that event overall was terrible.

#41

It wasn't the easiest though... And the strongest two teams made it to the finals... And the strongest won...
Even if it was double elim... Results would've been same....

Also OP asked if n why people disliked it.. not easy or hard... So i just said i liked it n why

I don't have any qualms with it, it was a tourney that every team got into and they made it single elim to make sure it didn't last centuries. Good way to show off who made franchising and what they were capable of at the time.

Don't really have a problem with the formats, but 2023 lock in is the start of franchising so most team are just not ready yet

because fnc played 1 team that qualified to anything else that year before grand finals and it was navi who were not that good. 2023 sen, 100t and furia, there might never be as easy a path ever again and it was all because of the format. Meanwhile loud had to play nrg and drx, considering how close the grand final was the whole tournament was basically down to bracket luck

It would've been already forgotten and never brought up if any CN team or any team that is not relevant anymore had won the event.

The fact that Fnatic won it makes it relevant, important and frequently brought up.

It was a fun event but no where near a good or significant competition.
