I'm not clueless, I've watched all of Portugal's matches recently and the 6-1 against Switzerland and the 9-1 against Armenia are by far the best they've looked as a cohesive team in the past 5 years and Cristiano didn't play in either
I'd argue Portugal's midfield is doing a lot of the heavy lifting right now. They're the reason they're dominating possession so heavily in their games lately. Cristiano might be a key player but he is not by any means necessary, especially with his current form
