does G2 have a successful year?

no, incredibly underwhelming. no real trophies and really bad international performances

2nd m1, 4th m2, 8th champs
i dont think vlr users realize that at most 3 out of 48 teams a year will win a trophy
When you're the perennial favorite in all three internationals and you're losing games you shouldn't be in all three of them, that's nothing less than a disappointing year. Not to mention how they couldn't adjust to the meta at all in the latter half of the year and aren't playing to their strengths, they just fell apart and wasn't even close to meeting expectations. Something needs to change with the coaching as well as maybe a roster change.
they were 2 rounds from winning bangkok, which i'll be honest, they choked entirely on both of the last 2 maps. disappointing match sure but not at all disappointing tournament
masters 2 was a direct nerf to g2 who profited so much off the back of tejo meta and they still made top 4, only losing to the 2 grand finalists
champs was a flat out bad event, i wont argue that.
there is no player in americas that i would take over the 5 on g2. the coaching staff does need an adjustment though. map vetoes alone have been horrible recently
their vetoes and comps especially. they got away with forcing solo yoru in americas because they have no competition there, but it became clear after toronto that it wouldn't work. their abyss, bind, ascent, corrode and split (by far their biggest issue in Toronto) were all bad because they kept jawgemo on solo duelist on maps where it wasn't ideal. I'm not even a big G2 fan (mainly just jawgemo and JonahP) but it frustrated me watching their games because they should be better with their agent pools. their rigidity and refusal to play double duelist ruined their year. on Split they got ran over by raze yoru double duelist, and with leaf and jawgemo on your team i can't say I'll ever understand why they didn't practice it. JonahP has really good agent flexibility as well so he can patch up any possible holes that they'd need with that. It just upsets me seeing jawgemo's talent get wasted on this team without a lot of help.
of course the choking issues at bangkok and against prx were bad too, but that's obvious already. they need a mental coach or something, seeing jonahp take over fade and sova on genuinely every map besides ascent makes me think trent has had horrible mental for a while

i get wanting to maximize the amount of util they have but some rounds you just need to break open a site with bodies
and its not like theyre opposed to running "useless" agents when leaf played chamber literally today
late response (just going through my notis) but really it was just the fact that jonahp took over his role on every map (other than the one ascent game) and defaulted onto the tejo every other time. it's not really a sure sign but i gotta say it doesn't look good when your flex player is taking over your role full time so you can play your comfort agent
If I was on that team and the reporter asks me that question, I would say no. We are supposed to win tournaments, not bomb out
i thought they would reach at least LBF tbh.
seeing them got shat on by DRX lowered my expectation to amer teams.
compared to SEN's , Fnatic (maybe prx with the way they are playing) dream runs , G2 were underwhelming.
Gatekeepers of good teams , absolutely destroy teams lower than them , loses to teams with better synergy and playmaking abilities,
stuck with their "perfection" , too cocky after jawgemo, L org
For sure all americas titles and playoffs at all events it's crazy people see differently

So NO. Big failure. Unsuccessful.
if most other teams did what they did, it would be successful. but this roster was supposed to be championship or bust, there are 0 excuses for them.
