The breakup of 2023 EG is the biggest loss in VCT

It’s time to admit it. Everything that makes Valorant Esports special can be found in EG’s path to champions.

  • They had the underdog narrative in every single event
  • They had the very literal zero to hero journey improving after damn near every single match like some kinda futuristic AI (Champs EG wouldve 3-0’d Tokyo EG)
  • They had the personalities
  • They had the haters wanting to see them fail for simply being too good (EG had a dead fanbase at the time there was literally nothing to hate but their gameplay, also Potter hate)
  • They had the “last hope” narrative for their region while every other NA team was literal dogshit embarrassments
  • They had their main character, the rookie T3 bully and a star of an arena shooter who proved to be the best in the world
  • They had the insanely stacked competition (Champs 2023 = hardest tournament to win to date)
  • They had their uniqueness and innovation no other team understood. If they couldn’t adapt to something, they’ll just find something better (EG Sova Fracture, double duelists flexing on and off smokes, etc)
  • They had the highlights, set plays, unmatched team coordination, and overall gameplay filled with a shit ton of “wow” moments that can only be explained with black magic (EG won like 5 different 2v5s that year)

And there’s like a bunch more to be said but I’m too burnt out right now. The point I’m making is that EG achieved all of this in 6 months, and the complete dissolution of what many still consider to be the best Valorant team ever is a complete disaster for this esport that’s desperately trying to grow.

First FaZe, then Optic, then EG

Riot deliberately doing everything in their power to avoid an NA dynasty

Imagine if Valve found a way to greenlight 2013 FNC to completely dissolve after their first major win, Riot doesn’t understand fans wanna see winners continue to win, not be bought off by a bunch of other richer orgs :/

Don’t worry 2025 GIANTX got you. They have been on the underdog journey since group stage. But of course you would ignore their current run as everyone ignored EG’s back in 2023. What GiantX are doing right now is amazing too
